DS goes on Friday. He's 2.5. I feel like I should have taken him a long time ago but I didn't have dental insurance on him until January.

We took DD when she was 18 months but that early I felt lie it was more about exposure than actual cleaning their teeth

We took DD just after she turned 1 and she hated it, haha. I mean, she thought the TV they had was somewhat cool, but the dentist brushed her teeth and she was NOT thrilled.

Maybe this will make you feel better :: I just asked my dentist this since our guy is nearing 2 and she said no need until 3 unless we have concerns. He has become quite cooperative with brushing and despises medical appointments so I am going to wait until then! Perhaps some recommend earlier but I feel comfortable with this timeline.

We'll take him once he's three. Even then not sure if getting dental insurance is worth it for routine cleanings.

I took my LO just before she turned 2 because we had dental insurance. They mostly spoke to me about good habits and diet, then took a quick look inside LOs mouth to check that there were no issues.

LO is 18 months and we haven't taken her yet. Planning to take her before she turns 2.

A little over 2. Same thing - we didn't have her on our insurance until January. I think it was fine to go at 2.

LO is 20 months and I've been thinking about making her an appointment. I can't imagine they will do or see much - she doesn't even open her mouth to let me look in!

I wouldn't worry about it! My LO is 20 months so I spoke with my dentist about this recently, and he said that visits under the age of 3 or 4 are more focused on getting the kid comfortable with the idea of the dentist in order to build good habits.
I'll probably try and take my kiddo at 2 since we have dental insurance, but I won't push it if he's uncomfortable and shy. The important thing is brushing teeth at home... which is still questionable at times at our house.

18 months but it was more for advice/exposure. No cleaning. We paid a cash price.

@matador84: Don't worry! We took her the first time at 2 but literally all they did was have her watch my cleaning, sit in the chair and let them count her teeth, and give her a toothbrush. She didn't get an actual cleaning until 2.5 and it is not an issue. We also didn't bother with dental insurance as it was cheaper to pay out of pocket (we didn't pay until the actual cleaning though).

We took DS at 15 months, 25 months and he will be going again when he turns 3 next month. The first two appointments were to just get him used to the idea of going. This next appointment he will actually get a cleaning.

Our LO is 14 months, and I haven't even thought about it. Our doc mentioned it being important around 2??
