I usually shop at the kids consignment store for winter gear like boots and snow pants so I should really get on that since it gets picked over so early. LO didn't really go outside much last year though so I didn't overthink brand/quality. My youngest will probably rarely go out but my oldest will need decent gear for school, so I may end up having to buy new if I don't find what I like used.
When do you look into buying winter gear for your LO? Any particular brands you prefer?

I was just thinking about this. LO will need a new winter jacket this year and perhaps a raincoat and boots. She got soaked at school today!

I already bought a coat (Boden) and winter boots (Sorel) for DS. His last coat and boots lasted for 2 winters, so it was time for new gear.
DD will get DS's old boots, I bought her a second hand snowsuit and I'm not yet sure if last year's winter coat will still work. I'm waiting to see if she grows much more by the time it's cold enough to wear it.

I buy used at the end of last season. She has 2 pair overalls and 2? Jackets for this year and a jacket for the next winter (if it doesn't fit I'll resell and recoup, no biggie). 2 items new, the rest EUC, all under $25

I already bought a down coat and snow pants. Working on the boots. Another bad winter is predicted for the northeast, so I'm buying quality stuff that will last and keep my LO warm and dry.

Thankfully her snowsuit and jacket fit from last year! So she just needs new boots. I'll likely buy them in the next couple of weeks since last year we had a snowstorm Nov 1

I tend to buy when people put stuff for sale on the Classifieds, haha. 
I think Xander's winter coat and snow pants will probably still fit from last year, but I'm on the look out for snow boots!

We are all set for the year. I am reusing last year's snow pants, I bought a coat at an end of season sale and I just received boots in the mail.

Turns out I bought B's winter gear last fall - I bought him a 12-18 snowsuit thinking "He'll be 12 months in January, this will fit." He never grew into it and I had to go out at the last minute and buy him a 6-12. The 12-18 fits this year, so that worked out great! (tiny babies are so hard to predict, I've learned a valuable lesson about buying clothes a season ahead based purely on what age he'll be)

I bought DS a nice winter jacket like 2 years ago when they were on super sale. He didn't grow into it like I expected, but it'll fit him perfectly this year so we're good!

I got a winter coat and a fleece car coat last year - just bought her winter (not snow) boots today because of the 30% off cartwheel offer!

I have her jackets (both bought at consignment) - one is a heavy winter coat and the other is a lighter jacket with a liner. We don't need winter boots.

Bought her snowsuit in August!
As ridiculous as it sounds, Costco started carrying awesome quality Osh Kosh suits for $29, so I snapped one up.
Boots, mittens and hats can wait a little longer.

Bought and re-bought (her feet grew, so her unused Sorel boots will likely not fit). I usually buy stuff during the summer for the best deals since I have to buy separate preschool/daycare gear. Including her fall/spring gear, it's just a whole lot of stuff! I don't think I'll ever be used to this.

We're pretty set for this year, I think.
He'll reuse his winter boots from last year, and his coat, and thermals and fleece pajamas.
I got him some snow bibs on clearance at Target last year, they're size 3T so maybe too big.
Come to think of it, we might need new fleece-lined pants this year, and maybe new winter hat. Gotta get on that! Last year we had good luck with sale or clearance stuff from Old Navy and Gap, plus thermals from Uniqlo. The Gap duck boots are great.
