My mom swears she had a 4th birthday party for my brother (in 1979) with just kids. I don't see that happening today. When do you think you will start having kid-only birthday parties?

@mediagirl: yep!
DS is 7 and has a party next weekend - parents said I could drop off - haven't ever had that offered before so I guess now at age 7

Probably after they've been in school for a couple years (7-8). At 5 I would feel fine dropping my kid for a party at a good friend's house, but since the kids will just be starting Kindergarten then, we probably won't know their friends' parents very well yet.

hmm... good question. Maybe around 6 or 7? It depends on the activity and how much supervising I would need to do. I cannot imagine having 10 4 year olds in my house without lots of adults supervising!!

school-aged, so 6 or so? I dropped my kindergarten niece off at a play center for a birthday party.

I remember being about 5 or 6. I had a few friends in the neighbourhood so I could walk over to their house for a party.

My 6th birthday was a drop off party.
Seems to be where once the kids are in school they get dropped off. So around 5.

Age 5 or 6
The kids will be fully potty trained, able to eat on their own & know of any food allergies, and should be able to take directions well by then.

This year, at 5. DD has been to a few, but we didn't have one ourselves. She didn't want a party this year.

Probably 5 or 6. My niece just turned 5 and she had two friends come over (it was a combo family + small group of friends party). One parent stayed and the other dropped off. I get the sense that the one who dropped off knew my SIL better.
