I believe Santas are now at all our local malls for pics (this weekend was the first weekend). It seems crazy early but I am so excited to get M's first pic with Santa taken. I'd like to have it done early before the lines are super long, but it feels weird doing it before Thanksgiving. Maybe we'll go the first week in December.

yes!! we went to bass pro last year, it was so fun, lol. LO was only 2 months - we went before thanksgiving to get it out of the way before crowds.
ill be honest that i'm thinking this year will either
1) bomb - she's terrified of anyone she doesn't know
2) go smoothly because she's obsessed with poking my FIL's mustache. can you imagine the curiosity with santa's beard?!

Sometime in December. They have Santa pictures at day care but we want to take her. Even thought that means fighting the crowds at the mall. We are just planning on getting there right when they open.

@sorrycharlie: DH wants to go next week! He isn't a fan of malls/crowds, so he thinks the earlier we go the better. I don't think M will cry because she's so young and doesn't really have stranger anxiety yet, but I could see her not looking at the camera because she's too fascinated by all the lights.

No, we're not doing this.
My son has stranger anxiety and this wouldn't go well, lol. I also don't want to be in the position where he's asking for stuff from Santa that we either don't want or can't afford to buy!

It's probably a good idea to go early or sometime during the week if you can.
I took off DS's birthday (12/17), so I'm thinking of doing it then.
He cried last year, haha.. hoping this year will be better (he's going to be 2).

@rachiecakes: I'm still on mat leave and DH works from home 3 days a week, so we do have the advantage of going during the week. I think the crying ones are kinda cute!!

We try to go during the first week of December on a weekday to avoid the crowds. I cheat and don't actually pay for photos. You're allowed to visit Santa without purchasing a package and can take pictures outside the gated area. I prefer our photos over the ones they sell.

@lawbee11: GO NOW!!! The lines get CRAZY in December. We will probably take our kiddos next week. Another good time is as soon as he mall opens.

@MamaBehr: Even during the week?? I was hoping it wouldn't be too bad then since kids are in school. I actually think we're going to try the Santa at the mall near you. The mall near us is kinda crappy.

@lawbee11: Especially after work! It can get crazy. Our first year here we didn't know any better and ended up leaving the first time because the line was so long and the second time we still waited over a half an hour. Last year we discovered NO LINES before Thanksgiving. I've been pretty impressed by the Santas at the mall near me! They are pretty authentic looking hahaha

I feel lucky because I do not want to wait in those lines, but they are planning to have a Santa come to my new Mom's group and a professional photographer will take photos for a donation to a charity!

I'm going to take him beginning if December. I don't think Santa arrives at any of our malls until the end of November. Then the second weekend in December there is Santa dressed in camo at cabella's, so we will take him there too.

We did it this past weekend, but it was only because my dad was dressing up as Santa at his store for our hometown's Christmas Open House. Honestly, I don't know that we would have done it if my dad hadn't dressed up.

I'd like to wait until Dec even though I saw people taking pics at the mall today. I think our best bet is to go the first week, early on a weeknight. I'm hoping she doesn't cry!!

We'll probably take them mid-December... That way baby sister isn't a teeny tiny newborn. I can't wait! I'm scared of how E will react though- he's been having stranger anxiety towards men lately.

I've been such a slacker with the younger two, my oldest has all the cute milestone photos and Santa pics, they have none
We'll take our 2 year old and 3 month old soon, our local phone company has the best Santa ever and it should be coming up soon! When my son was 3 they featured him Santa's lap in the advertisement, I'll see if I can find it.

I'm so excited for K's first Santa pic! It was all set-up at our mall last weekend, but no Santa in house yet. I'm thinking a weekday before Thanksgiving if DH can make it. Isn't it sad, he doesn't even care to do the pics - he hates Christmas shopping crowds that much.

I have an induction set for 41 weeks...dec 2... So I'm thinking mid December we will do them. Too close to Christmas but oh well!!

We'll probably wait until December. She's only three months and still changes so much so quickly and I want it to be a close to accurate depiction of what she was like at her first Christmas, so don't want to go too early.
But we also have a Santa and pro photog at our work Christmas party, so if the mall gets to busy I have that to fall back on.

Our local nursery has a really awesome display that we'll go to - We'll probably tag along with my SIL and her kids. I'm nervous though... DD just started developing separation anxiety. She's fine with strangers as long as she can touch me. But, I can't even put her on the floor and walk away from her in our own house...

@sorrycharlie: aah, bass pro shops, or as I like to call it, the redneck aquarium (affectionately). We will probably go soon. Does yours have a Christmas carousel?
I was telling this girl I work with how elaborate and cool bass pro shops Santa display is and that you get a free picture..she wrinkled up her nose and was all "yah, I think we'll skip that one." She's missing out!

@lawbee11: Consider going to Willowbrook Mall. I know it is a bit out of the way for you but we really like that santa (great facial expressions) and we usually go on a Saturday morning either in early December (like 12/7) or right before Christmas (like 12/21). As long as we get there about 15 minutes before they open, I stand in line and hand C over to DH, who walks around with him a bit and the line moves fast and we are in and out of there, no problem.

Our friend is having Santa come to her house to take pictures with all the kids the first Friday in December. I can't decide how P will act this year...terrified? I hope not since she spends 3 days a week at this friends house and all her little friends will be there, too! But, it could be a screaming disaster with lots of scared 18-36 month old kids! haha

@pelikila: Ok so we just went to the mall near our house and I scoped out Santa while we were there. He actually looked good and smiled/waved as we walked by. Plus there was no one in line, so I think we'll give that one a shot this year. Thanks for the rec, though!
