@Mamaof2: I had that phone too! It was my mom's and I had to borrow it any time I drove anywhere.
I'm guessing some time around 8-10. I'm fascinated by people that say they're going to wait until high school. This is the digital age, it's not like when we were kids.
We'll probably end up passing down one of our iPhones to him to start, but no data plan, just wifi.

Probably middle school. But there will be some definite restrictions placed on it.

I honestly have no idea.
There is a middle school across the street from us and I've seen a number of kids with smartphones.

I could see my husband buying one for our 1st grader
Hopefully, we will hold out until 4th or 5th grade when a mature 9 or 10 year old could stay home alone for a few hours afterschool.
There would definitely be some serious phone etiquette enforced at home. For instance phone off when it's family time.

Definitely definitely not in elementary. I'd like to hold off until grade 8.
