When you order drinks at Starbucks, do you say "tall/grande/venti" or "small/medium/large"?

@HabesBabe: that would be too obvious;) we like passive-aggressive. It's super healthy...;)

I always use the correct terminology (tall, grande, venti). To be honest, it annoys me when people refuse to use the right terms just to be difficult. If you don't know what they are then sure, go right ahead and say sm, med or lg but I don't see the point in boycotting the terminology. Boycotting the brand all together would make much more sense.

As a former Starbucks barista, I use their lingo...tall, grande, venti.

ALSO, I say frappucino, and not frappe or frapp...it's not McDonald's after all.

At Burger King I order a Whopper, and at McDonald's I order a Big Mac.

I use their sizing. Like @Mrs. J I worked there for a few years and it's an old habit. The more embarrassing thing is saying "tall" or "grande" at some other coffee shop and having them correct me

@KissMeCait: Part of the reason it bothers me is that the names don't really make sense. Venti means 20 in Italian, but the Venti iced coffees are 24 ounces (turns out that the hot ones are 20 ounces). I can live with that, but then Tall is a measure of height, and Grande/Large is a measure of size... and Venti is a number?

It just doesn't really make sense. Meanwhile, the small/medium/large distinction makes a lot of sense and is intuitive/well understood by all. I do a lot of user experience design work, so stuff like that bothers me.

I do also boycott the brand though.

@mrbee: Starbucks is actually a really good company that's great to its employees. I personally wouldn't boycott a company that treats their people so well. They also do a lot of good work for the communities that they have stores in.

I use their lingo because i do NOT like it when my mom says "small" and they give her a tall coffee, knowing full well it is a short size she is asking for. I usually order a short drink.

@mrbee: I agree with you 100% the names dont make much sense. I feel like it wasnt properly thought out when they chose the names

What annoys me more is when i go to a non-starbucks coffee shop and in my bleary eyed state i say "can i get a tall coffee" the cashier/barista will condescendingly say to her coworker, "this girl wants a TALL coffee. A TALL coffee."

@katiew92081: I don't go to Starbucks any more... when you move to Brooklyn, they force you to only go to independent coffee shops or you're kicked out of the borough. #fauxhipster

I thought I was the only one who ordered small/medium at starbucks! I hate their lingo and refuse to use it.

I use Starbucks terminology. It doesn't even strike me as being weird anymore.

My FIL went to a Starbucks for the first time, recently, and came away thoroughly pissed because he tried to order a coffee and got all confused about sizes. He said he's never going back again! Haha.

@mrbee: I am with you. I can't stand starbucks. Occasionally, I will have one of their festive lattes but for a regular cup of joe I am all about the independent places #ventiwhatthecrap
