Do you paint the ceiling as well? If so, what color? We have standard builder beige ceilings but we painted our room a light blue/gray color and I hate the beige ceiling, I want it white!

I've heard it can be done and sometimes is gorgeous if you do a fun color

I know it can be done but I prefer not to draw any attention to my ugly pupcorn ceilings. lol. But mine are white. If they were beige I would be painting them white as well! Go for it! I have had to do touch ups where we had to replace the tape and bedding and painted it to match then. It is super easy but VERY exhausting on your arms and neck.

In our new house, yes! The less I see of builder beige, the better.

I would just get flat white ceiling paint, I did a couple of rooms using the ceiling colors suggested on the back of martha stewarts HD paint swatches... but its cheaper and a easier to just get the ceiling paint

No, ours are white and they haven't bothered us enough to paint, the exception being that we painted the tray ceiling in our bedroom as an accent My sisters painted their rooms bright blue and bright purple as kids and painted the ceiling as well... I swear, it would sear your corneas to go in there!!

I painted all my ceilings when I first bought my house. They were white but I added a new coat and I was sooo surprised by how not-white they actually were when I started a few strokes of the real white!! Esp the kitchen from years of cooking, gross!!
If you're painting over popcorn ceilings be sure to use a super super thick fluffy roller.
I've also seen some rooms where the wall is one color and the ceiling is a slightly ligher shade of that color. I think it really depends on how dark the color is (too dark and it will feel like a cave) and how much light you have in the room.

Thankfully our ceilings are white and we haven't had to.

Ceilings are a pain to paint so I would avoid doing it if possible. I can understand you hating the beige though!

We painted our ceilings white because the previous owners had painted them the same color as the room. Ceilings are a pain to paint and I make DH so it.

We haven't had to paint a ceiling, but our ceilings were already white. Maybe you should just start with the walls, once there's color on there, they ceilings may pop and not look so beige. If you still hate it after walls are painted, then paint them white too?
ETA: oops, I missed that you already painted the room. If you still hate it, paint the ceiling, good news is that you should only have to paint it once. I used to help my mom paint the ceilings and walls of their rentals. I suggest getting a step ladder or chair to stand on, it sucks to have to move it around the room, but it's soooo much easier on your neck and arms than just having a roller on an extension.

@Minnie_Girl: That's how I feel too! But we have A LOT of builder beige!

No, but we should since the previous owners were really sloppy and got blotches of paint on all our ceilings! Luckily at least they're neutral colors, but you can totally see if you look for it. We have 10 foot ceilings though, so it's just not feasible for us to paint them ourselves.

Our painter suggested we use the same color we already had on our ceilings, which is an off-white. The ceilings were in good shape, so he didn't repaint those. We went with a bright white- color & finish on the crown molding.
If you take the paint swatch of your current wall color and use the lightest color on the swatch that could be a great ceiling color. Or just keep adding white to your paint color to make a lighter vision of it.
