We were reading a book the other day and my husband asked me why I was using a bad British accent for one of the characters. I had no idea I was even doing it! Ha.

Ha, yeah. She always looks at me funny when I can accents for each character.

I change it up, but usually it's just to "go deep" for a guy! ha

My dad always did different voices for characters when he read to us. I loved it! I haven't had enough practice yet.

@LuLu Mom: ha, yes! I growl like a papa bear when I read Goldilocks and the 3 bears.

I use accents and do other crazy stunts sometimes cause I stay home with my little one and sometimes I just have to do that to keep myself going. When your LO wants you to read brown bear, brown bear 6 times in a row, you just gotta do anything to not go crazy.

I have ridiculous read aloud voices sometimes I feel badly after reading skippy Jon jones books, like my skippy Jon voice is inappropriate or something. I'm sure I'm overthinking it though!

I don't because I'm the boring parent, but my husband does alllllll sorts of voices because he rocks. He somehow keeps them all straight and they are all really, really good. I love hearing him read, and hate when I have to read out loud and try (and fail) to replicate the good voices

@mediagirl: Oh yes I do all sorts of voices. I also speed up or slow down my voice depending the excitement of the character. I will also, draw with my finger on the pages a circle or line to show the character going around and around in a circle or zooming across in a line. Silly but my 2 year old picked-up really quick what a circle is etc. I will also stop and ask him if he can find the stars in the picture or a ball, etc.

Yes, accents and different pitch voices for different characters. Partly for my own amusement after reading the same books over and over....

Always! It's the teacher in me. Sadie prefers when I read to her (over dad), because I act a fool.

For some reason, the dragon in the Paperbag Princess has a crazy spanish accent when I read it.

My dad always did all kinds of voices for me growing up. He even still remembers some of them (and who they go with)! I never do them, and I think part of the reason is that I always feel like mine sound dumb compared to how great all of his were. I'm curious to see what DH does.

I didn't realize I did, until last night, when I was reading a story and I busted out a Southern and an British accent.

@mrs. bird: haha that's the best book to do terrible Spanish accents!
I speak in accents- especially in Charlie and Lola! I tease DH because his sound for every woman in the book is terribly high pitched and squeaky lol!

@lamariniere: Ditto! My pitch changes, but that's about it. I'm terrible with accents. lol

I avoid cultural accents, but I do change up my voice a little to separate the characters from each other.

@mrs. bird: Omg those books... I got one for for a friend's son without actually looking closely at the book and I don't think they're too happy about having to read it

I never do voices (I might when LO is older and cares? Right now she feels books are a punishment I inflict on her I think? lol) but DH does voices and it cracks me up.
