I would always prefer to sit with Mrs. Bee, even if the seats aren't good.
But then yesterday we sat too close to a big screen (my fault entirely), and I had a headache for over 24 hours. So now maybe I'd be willing to consider a better seat apart...
When you see a movie with your SO, would you choose 1) Bad seats but at least you get to sit together or 2) Good seats but you have to sit apart?

This has happened. I know he wouldn't be comfortable apart so, bad seats together for him.

We had to watch a movie in the seats close up too and I did have a headache but I would never enjoy a movie alone.

bad seats together! i'm such an emotional movie watcher...i laugh too loudly, cry too hard, and gasp audibly for air during suspenseful moments...it's kind of embarrassing. 
i need to sit next to mr. cowboy so i don't do all that all by myself. instead, i just embarrass him. ha! actually, my sister is my favorite person to go to the movies with because she is exactly the same way!

We usually always buy assigned seats ahead of time to avoid the situation.

Once we sat apart (there were NO seats together). If this ever happens again, we will just go get our money back or ask to see a different movie (most theaters are very good about this!)

@mrbee: We went to watch Dark Knight the other day and I totally thought about you sitting up close to the screen! DH and I always sit towards the back.
I'd rather sit together even if the seats are bad though. This has never happened because we always show up early. And if we're late, we'll ask people to scoot in so we can sit together.

All theatres assign seating when you book your tickets here, and if DH saw there were no good seats together... We just wouldn't go!

good seats apart, but only if we're separated by a row at most. we don't like talking during movies, so it's not that important. man, i feel like a bad wife looking at everyone who would rather sit together!

bad seats together! I talk to him the whole time. I ask tons of questions, and say, "oh my gosh, did you see that?!" over and over. He hates it, but it's how I roll.

just about the plot and characters. they are usually questions that he can't answer (he's seeing the movie for the first time too!) or that will be answered in like 15 minutes if I just paid attention. I can't help it though... I have to know what's going on.

Neither. We usually go to the box office to give us seats to another less crowded theatre. If not, we'll get a refund. Worst thing ever is sitting in the front and get a sore neck. As you can see, we take our movie going experience pretty seriously. haha. If I'm going to pay $10 a movie ticket, we might as well be comfortable.
Then again, the two movie theaters that we go to are around other shopping centers so we can easily kill time and wait for another showing.

@mrbee: @photojane: I do the same thing but I tend to point out mistakes in the film or things that wouldn't actually happen in real life. The DH actually started saying "Well, that's why it's a movie, honey." Guess he was getting annoyed at me. LOL.

That would never work for us though, because we have to get childcare to see a movie. So if we're at the theater, by gosh we are going to see the movie at that time and place!!

@bluestriped bee: Actually I take it back... if you have family in the area, you can definitely catch regular movies and have flexibility too! Some friends of ours regularly catch a double feature on weekends (!!). That's just amazing to me... but fantastic if family members are willing!

That happened to us this weekend when we went to see batman. I think we sat in the third row. Luckily, we didn't get a headache afterwards. I miss the assigned seating in theatres in singapore. And there are also special theatres that offer reclined seats and table service.

I'm with @bluestriped bee - we'd refund our tix (the hubs cannot stand bad seats...or sit apart!). Thankfully, our favorite theatre (sundance kabuki) has reserved seating, so we can avoid this issue entirely.

@bluestriped bee: haha... sounds like me and my husband! i do the same thing. i'm always like, "he wouldn't do that!" or "that's not how that's supposed to be!" hubs is constantly reminding me that it's just a movie. i clearly take my movies seriously too!
