DS has recently discovered his fingers can go into his mouth, but hasn't quite gotten to sucking them yet.
How and when did your LO start to self-soothe?

LO would never take a pacifier, despite our best efforts. But, around 2.5-3 months she started sucking her thumb. Like your LO, she put her fingers in her mouth for a while leading up to that. Then I guess one day the thumb thing just clicked

we tried very hard to get our LO to take a pacifier because she started daycare at 12 weeks, and I knew she wouldnt run to pick her up everytime she cried. I would say between 6-8 weeks she started getting better at holding the pacifier in her mouth

@meredithNYC: DS won't take a pacifier either--he's only taken it once, on the car ride home from the hospital.

@FutureMrsMcK: I would suggest keep trying and maybe he will take it eventually? But yeah, my LO never did.

My LO takes a pacifier and I can put her to bed and she will just suck on that and put herself to sleep, she is 2 months.

She was always stoked when she got her two middle fingers into her mouth. At about 7 weeks she could do it on her own and went to town on them. That was so cute, I miss it.

Baylen has been starting to find his hand for the past couple of weeks. He's still not great about getting it into his mouth, and he has a REALLY tough time opening up his fist to only get his thumb or a couple of fingers in there. He's still swaddled at night, but he's unswaddled for naps and he tries SO hard as he's falling asleep to get his hand in his mouth. Unfortunately this usually leads to him getting very frustrated and upset!
He's also not a huge paci fan and I would LOVE to help him find his thumb more quickly haha.

Hmm, I think she started sucking on her hands around four months?

I can't remember a time when she didn't have a couple of fingers in her mouth.

Lo started sucking her thumb completely and consistently and 2 1/2 months. That's also when she started sleeping 12 hours through the night

At 3 months she found her thumb. Before then she'd often put her fist or fingers in her mouth, but never really successfully suck her thumb. She's been self soothing since. It's great because I'd have to rock and sush her to sleep before. Now at 4 months, all I have to do is drop her off and she goes at it. Sometimes it fails and she wakes her self up and becomes excited and wants to play, but if we put her down and she's actually tired, it works! The problem right now is getting her tired =/

LittleBebe was born sucking on his fingers. He's self-soothed a couple of times in the past two weeks or so - but not to sleep, just to stop crying.

I think they can self-soothe in different ways. My guy likes to sing what we call his 'lamb song' to get to sleep. Other times he will ask for help, but now about half the time he does it himself. He started around 4.5 months old, but he would do it while we were baby-wearing (which was a sleep aid for him already). Then he randomly started doing it when he woke up and was trying to get back to sleep, or when I'd put him down drowsy-but-awake.

LO self-soothes by sucking on her fingers and playing with her hair. This started at around 3 months.
