One came from a legit breeder and the other came from a sketchy breeder that I ended up calling animal control on once I picked up my kitty. I wanted very specific breeds that rarely end up in rescues

Both kitties, who are sisters, came from the animal shelter. It was just three of us for a long time - then they had to learn to warm up to DH. There is a little acting out now that LO has arrived. Still love them to pieces.

@FutureMrsMcK: Fantastic photos!
DH got his dog from a "breeder" who's main goal was to breed fighters Bronx was the runt of the litter and picked on by all the other dogs. DH has a friend who took one of Bronx's brothers too and they were friends their whole lives.
My cat I got from a lady who's cat just had kittens. I'd been friends with a shop lady's cat and asked her where she got the cat. She gave me the number and luckily enough the woman's cat had just had kittens. If I wouldn't have gotten her number I would have rescued a cat.

They both came from reputable breeders with legit breeding programs. We have working dogs and genes really are everything.
Any other dogs we get will likely be from breeders, as well since they'll be put to work.

@swedishfish: I rescued our dog from Arkansas also! I found her on Petfinder, there was a group that rescued dogs and brought them in a giant transport up north for adoption. Some despicable person dropped her over a 6 foot fence at a kill shelter. Luckily the group rescued her on the day she was supposed to be put down and put her in foster care before I adopted her. I understand that shelters don't have unlimited space, but to put down an amazingly sweet and good dog like her would've just been an absolute travesty :(.

Our two dogs are from the Humane Society. They look like designer dogs so people always ask what breeds they are. We just say they are Humane Society Specials! Our cat was a stray I took in, we found her as a tiny kitten burrowed into a snow bank. You couldn't even see her, just hear her pitiful mews:(. I brought her over to the neighbors to see if she belonged to them and they said she lived in their basement and they'd take her back. Not more than half an hour later I heard the kitty crying and she was back in the snow bank! I took her home with me after that. She was so tiny! Only about the size of my hand.

I love seeing all these pet pictures! The first picture is of our two cats, Autumn (Calico) and Roo (Orange domestic shorthair). Roo was a stray that turned up at our apartment with burns on one side, a broken leg, and singed whiskers. She's been with us for almost five years now. Autumn was adopted from the humane society.
The second picture is of our dog Bea. She was adopted from the humane society and she's eight years old. We purposefully wanted to adopt an older dog because they aren't wanted as much. We'd like to adopt an older cat in a few years.

I got Bambam from a pet store in a mall (ugh, I was young and dumb and not knowledgeable at all about puppy mills) as a spur of the moment christmas present to myself (...$1700 later.. don't worry I am NOT like this anymore!) and got Lucy from a breeder in Long Island. Thankfully, Bambam doesn't have any health or behavior issues, but typical to little dogs purchased in malls, where they always advertise that they will be "teacup" dogs (no such things exists in the Chihuahua breed!) he is much larger than the breed standard (he hovers around 9 lbs) and since Lucy is from a breeder, she is more of the breed standard at 4 lbs. Both are healthy and amazing and absolute loves of my lives!

We adopted our dog from the local SPCA. I got our cat about 11 years ago from the friend of a lady I worked with who needed to get rid of him because he wasn't getting along with her older cat.

@MrsCB: yes! These people do such good work down there by saving all these wonderful dogs and cats from the kill shelters. My dog also came to me on a transport up north. I wonder if it was the same rescue group! Warm Hearts?

My cat is no longer alive, but I'll pretend she is
Got Kandee (named her when I was 9!) from a shelter. She hated everyone but me and Krystal, her sister kitty. We think Krystal got stolen about 7 years before Kandee died though...
