I suddenly have a big girl job with plenty of vacation and no where that we really have to go next year. Getting antsy wanting to plan a vacation for our family of three. Where did you go at this age and how did it go? We live in the PNW if that helps.

Mexico, and it was awesome. Anywhere beachy is fun at that age.

Hilton Head at 18 months. She loved the beach and pool.

He traveled to Florida at 12 months, the Dominican Republic at 16 months, and California at 18 months. He's always been easy to travel with and he loves the beach. He loved Disneyland at 18 months.

We went to Lisbon at 17 months. It was lots of fun, he had a great time toddling around the cobblestone streets and taking the tram.

We went tneed Puerto Rico and it was great, since we felt like we were really getting away but didn't have to deal with customs or changing money or anything. But we are in the northeast so it was a pretty short direct flight. Not so much from the pnw.

We went to Cozumel when she was 16 months. It was a blast and I would do it again in a heartbeat! We did an all-inclusive, so that made things super easy.

We went to Hilton Head with DH's family when LO was almost 14 months. It's only about 6 hours from where we live.

Bali when DD1 was 15 months old and it was fantastic! Lots of pool and beach time, super easy.
When DD2 was 15 months old (DD1 was nearly 3), we went to the Canary Islands and again had an amazing time.
I think the common theme in this thread is beach!

Since you are in the PNW, go to Hawaii! Or go to Asia, I would recommend Thailand.
With DS at that age, we went to Hawaii, moved to France, went to a bunch of places in France, Portugal and back to the US for a wedding with a stop in Miami.
For DD at that age, we went to France twice (but we live in Europe now).

Bali, and it was awesome! And we're going to Fiji in March. From Australia though, which is pretty short haul.

@Ra: We did Disney at 18 months too (Disney Land) and LO had a blast!
There are tons of great options (easy flights) from the PNW! Hawaii for a beach retreat, California for Disney or Legoland/similar places. Anywhere really!

So we have not actually gone yet but we are taking T to Oahu when she is 8.5 months, Las Vegas at 1 year and a central Oregon resort at 15 mo. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping it goes well.

Nowhere! We took her from the U.K. to Spain when she was 11 months and it was HARD! That put us off for a while and we took her on short haul trips in Europe at 19, 21 and 23 months and from the U.K. to the U.S. at 20 months. Those were all so easy in comparison. I'd definitely go later if you can help it!

We did a Disney Cruise to the Caribbean at 16 months. It would have been amazing if we all hadn't gotten a really scary flu while on board. We were so impressed by everything though, we will definitely do another Disney Cruise at some point (just not during flu season next time).

10 days in Europe. My LO was a champ with the time change and it was a lot of fun!

We just did Tuscany with our 13 month old based on the recommendations from Mrs. Skateboard's post (http://www.hellobee.com/2015/04/20/tuscany-with-bambino/). It was wonderful!!

We had 2 really low-key trips--North Fork (tip of Long Island), NY for a long weekend and northern Michigan for a week with family. It was good for us to have not-so-ambitious plans (basically, beach, hikes, yummy meals, family play time) since LO has still wavered between 1-2 naps so scheduling is tricky. A more exotic beach would have also worked, she loves being in the sand!

We are about to take our 13 month old to Maui in 10 days! He loves the water, so we're hoping between the pool, the beach, and the aquarium he has a blast!

We went to Seaside, OR! It was perfect. She loved the beach, stroller rides on prom, the swings on the beach, playing in sand, all the fun shops, etc. Seaside is a good family vacation.

All inclusive in Mexico or Dominican Republic are our standard vacation spots with our LO since 9 months (almost 2 yo now). Room service, can eat anytime somewhere on the resort, lots of pools and the beach, and alcohol included for the big kids - everyone wins!

We did Charleston with our 18 mos old, before that was just trips to Naples, FL.
At 2 she just road-tripped to Philly, will be going to Denver and then Naples again.

Thanks for all the recs so far! Hawaii would be the easiest but we've been to 3 of the major islands already so looking for something easy but different. Thinking perhaps Mexico! We've never done an all inclusive but with the LO it might be easier.

@sapphire: Yes, I thought it was good for that age. LO used the nursery once before she got sick and enjoyed it, and we met another family on board who would put their 20 month old in the nursery for naps every day so they could go hang out. Although most activities were for older kids, they had baby/toddler time (with lots of toys) at least once per day and also Disney Jr dance parties a few times (my LO could walk well at that point so I let her join in). The hard part was dealing with naps (she was still on 2 per day) and early bedtime. The ports all had beaches and some toddler friendly activities. I think most people wait until their kids are 3 to go so they can use the kids clubs but there were still plenty of little ones on board too.

@sapphire: Cancun at NYX resort. Small but very nice. It is walking distance from a shopping mall and an aquarium, and the beach is very nice with turtles hatching on site. Cancun is super easy to navigate and kid friendly, so any resort should work well I think.

Holy crap, you guys all take baller vacations.
We did long-weekend trips that were 1-3 hours driving distance. Big Bear (mountains), Solvang (wine tasting and danishes), and Palm Springs-area for the pools.

We went on a cabin camping trip (light hiking, hanging out at a lake) and some day trips to the beach. All of our longer vacations were just visiting family!

We went to Southern California and Chicago. A month or so after DS was 18 months we went to Hawaii. He was great on all three trips (especially to Hawaii since it took us 20 hours to get there). He had a blast on all three vacations.

We did an all inclusive in Mexico at 14 months and it was great. She loved the pool and beach.

We have a trip to the Dominican Republic planned for next May. DD turns 1 year old the day we fly home.
