My mom's house
she is a tech. I went to the fire station once while she was away & had to correct the tech there about a few things. That didn't sit well with me, now only my mom gets to inspect them

You should be able to find a local technician here:

They should check it & show you how to reinstall it if its not in there properly (upwards of 85% of seats aren't installed properly so don't feel bad if its not... That's why you're there).
ETA: The Car Seats for The Littles fb group has a directory of techs... They are really knowed up & often give install advice through the group, you may be able to find on nearby you & meet with them! Because like just said there are some techs that don't know their stuff! Eep!

In my town you can call local police stations and make an appointment-- I found a list online. I'm a little concerned that they might not be all that knowledgeable though. It's on my list for this week.

@Foodnerd81: I have the same concern.. I got the list of techs in our area & then asked a friend in my mommy group (and the car seat group) if she knew any of them... she did so that's who we will go to if/when I need install help.

I made an appointment with our local EMS. They are the certified technicians in our area.

I made an appt at our local AAA office-they have a tech that works there. We installed it beforehand and she checked it. We searched online for carseat check locations in our area and found a listing online. She was just the first to call us back.

Our hospital offers appointments one Monday every month so we will be going there.

My local hospital will inspect car seats for a $15 fee. I went to the DMV instead, and it was free. There is only person who does the inspections, and I had to schedule an appointment. He was very knowledgeable and helped correct the install that DH did the night before.

@autumnlove: There was a lady in the car seat group that actually had a horrible experience with the CHP... the lady literally made her turn her child (they were under age 2 but over 20lb) forward facing (she uninstalled the seat & reinstalled it ff) and then convinced the husband that was how it was supposed to go. =/ The lady fixed it when she got home, but her DH was pretty much convinced rf wasn't the right way for their child to be anymore.

@runsyellowlites: That sucks! The guy who checked our seat told us to keep our kids rear facing as long as possible.
