I have a ton of gymboree, baby gap, and mud pie stuff that I would love to sell but I have no idea where to start. Where do you buy/sell stuff? Ebay, consignment shops, those big consignment shows, etc? For those of you who have sold your clothes, was it worth it? I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the money I'll recoup. Any advice or comments?

i sell at my local consignment shop because it's easier than craigslist, local listserv, ebay, or thredup. they always have great vintage clothes so i get store credit (you get more if you get credit as opposed to cash) and buy clothes there.

I just attended a twice yearly consignment sale in our town and it BLEW MY MIND!! I cannot wait to consign there this spring.

I have used thredup.com twice now, but they only take 12 month and up clothes. I know there are a few other ladies on HB who buy from thredup. It's basically online consignment and they send you a bag to ship it free.. You don't get a lot for your clothes. I think the estimate is 20% of what you paid originally. I haven't done a brick and mortar consignment store and would be curious what others do.

I'm leaning towards doing the big consignment shows thing. I bought some stuff at them and will try to resell it for a little more than what I paid. That way, when I get my 60-70%, it'll be close to what I paid. For instance, I bought a snap'n'go for $25. I'll use it for 6 months, keep it in good shape, and try to sell it for $30. That way, I'll actually make around $20 and still have gotten use out of things.

@T-Mom: Where do you live? Just Between Friends is one of the biggest, based all over the US.

We have mom2mom sales they are called around here, and it's like a huge indoor garage sale for baby and kids items. I buy LO stuff there, or at our local kids consignment shop called Once Upon a Child, which I know they have in several states. I think you will get more of your money back if you sell it on your own at a mom sale or something, because at the consignment shops they don't give you much money per item.

@Mrs. Bee: I don't really have a local one that I know of, and find that they are hard to find online. I'll have to start asking around since a local shop would be very convenient.

I haven't tried this online consignment site yet, but I'm thinking about using it when Too Little Information moves from newborn clothing to 3M: http://www.moxiejean.com. They're a startup based in the Chicago area and they accept clothing as small as preemie sizes.

We have kids exchange here twice a year. It. Is. Ginormous!! I am starting to organize my things now. It's in February. I'm selling clothes, a bassinet and a toy organizer. Most everything I am selling I bought at the sale last year!

@T-Mom: I know! There are other organizations out there too. Near me there is another one called Outrageous Outgrowns, but I think they're just local. Try googling your state/area with children's consignment.

I haven't sold any yet, but have bought plenty. I have had the best luck with a local resale facebook page for moms. I also have a really good kids consignment place nearby, and I love going to Savers (there is a big one in W. Roxbury on rt. 1).

For buying clothes, I go through Craigslist or a local for-profit thrift store. I got this outfit (well, shirt and pants... Headband and socks are mine) for $2! The shirt is Janie & Jack and the jeggings are Carter's. I went to one of those consignment sales once, but found better deals on clothes at the thrift shop. Gear is definitely better at the consignment sales, though!
