UGH. Probably the guest bedrooms. Pack one of those up so you'll have a place to store boxes of stuff you pack? Then do art on the walls, etc. Is it an in-town move or far away? Last time I did an in-town move I tied to take carloads every other day or so of just random stuff around my house. Kept me from having to pack up stuff just so I could unpack it a few days later. How long until moving day? I would decide on your wardrobe/toiletries/cooking needs for the next few days/weeks and then pack up the rest.

When I did in-town I think the first thing I packed was our closets. I wanted to put stuff in closets in the new house because it would not be stuff we had to walk around/over/through when we were moving the big stuff (ie, furniture/beds). Plus I didn't want DH's work clothes to get messed up in the moving truck. I basically tried to fill up all our new house's closet and attic space with stuff that usually goes in the attic/closet (clothes, Christmas, camping and sports gear) so that we didn't have to fool with that stuff on our big moving day. I also gathered up and stowed in the closets all knick knacks wall-art because that was of course some of the first things I took down once I started packing and I liked the idea of keeping them safe since we had people moving furniture and stomping around. I then moved to kitchen. I went to the new house, cleaned and lined the shelves, then packed up everything but like 1 pot and 1 pan and took it over to the new house and unpacked it. So the kitchen was already done when we moved in. You could even do the same thing for linen closets, craft areas, bookshelves if you have built-ins, etc. That way, on the day of the big move, all you'll really be moving is furniture. I HATE packing up little boxes of crap just to move them across town. I'd rather do a little bit and just take a carload over each day than waste time packing a box I'm just gonna have to unload as soon as I got there. Seriously, I'd rather take drawers of silverware out of my cabinets, put them in my car, and then empty it straight into the new drawers and take the old drawer back and replace it than to put it all in a box, tape it shut, and open it 4 days later (what a waste of boxes that could be used for other things!). When we moved I was 4 months pregnant and looking to cut corners wherever I could! Good luck to you!

I start with stuff that we don't use often especially if its bulky or already in totes like off season clothes. The visual of stuff clearing out helps motivate me for the more annoying stuff.

I would start with things you don't need. Entertainment stuff (music/DVDs/games), off season clothes, stuff in guest rooms etc I'm in the same boat

I agree, things we don't use daily. Board games, dvds, books, pictures and decorations.

I start by taking things off of the walls, then packing up books. From there it's knick-knacks, linens, closest, kitchen, clothes and so on.

I start by all the stuff you don't use every day. Then just go room by room. Pictures, knick knacks are always first too.

I also start with things that I don't use everyday - books, games, out of season clothes, etc.

I start with guest rooms and bathrooms. Move on to living room, aster bed then bath with kitchen being last.

I started with things I didn't need, like books, art, sewing stuff, off season clothes, etc. also, make sure to label your boxes thoroughly with exactly what's in them. It saved me a huge headache.

(1) The linen closet. (2) Clothes / shoes / coats that are out of season (3) Books (4) Then kitchen supplies.
It is ridiculous how easy it was for me to write that list in order. Clearly I have moved way too many times over the last few years...
