For those first few months the pack n play in our room worked best. My hubby would bring the baby to me in bed when baby woke up in the middle of the night, and burp him and change him when he was done nursing. It was good teamwork! I would have become very resentful if I had to handle the night feedings all alone in another room, but I know that works well for some people.

Ooh, I'm also wondering about this. Right now, I'd say that my preference is for the baby to sleep in its crib from the start, but I'm not sure I'll feel that way once we're all home together. Our bedrooms are all grouped closely together in our house, so its only a couple steps from our room to the nursery, but I do put some stock in the idea that being near parents helps the baby's breathing stay regular in the early days. We have a secondhand P&P but it doesn't have the bassinet attachment, so I'm wondering if we should get some other bassinet and not set it up unless necessary, so we could return/exchange it if we don't end up needing it. For some reason, I'm just mentally REALLY opposed to the R&P but I may eat my words in a couple months... I think it's just so hard to know what will work until the baby comes, but it's hard when you're a planner and just want to make sure everything is in place!

My dr told us no rock n play, so we did pack n play in room. Then I realized I was being kept awake by her noises so we moved her to crib with baby monitor, much better.

I would definitely TRY having the baby in your room if possible - having your husband get up and help you in the middle of the night is sooooooooooo helpful, especially those first few weeks! And as a newborn, your LO will probably be able to sleep through the snoring and the dogs. BUT if you find all the commotion is keeping her up, I'd move her to her crib and have you sleep in there with her. They're up every couple hours in the beginning and being right next to them makes it soooo convenient. Plus I think having the baby near you in those first few weeks helps reduce the chance of SIDS.

I think you will have to do whatever makes you comfortable when baby comes home, but I know I couldn't have had her in her own room at first. We have a high bed in our bedroom and I didn't want to be climbing in and out a million time a night. So for us it worked for me to sleep in the nursery on the bed in there with C in the RnP. This meant Dh wasn't there for all te late night feeds but we figured it made some sense to have one of us with a decent amount of sleep for coping purposes. It did lead to a little resentment in the middle of the night but I'm not sure it would have been better if he was in the room with me anyway.

We did that for the first three weeks then baby and I both move into the master bedroom when we had my mom come and stay in the nursery. Last night, six weeks old, baby slept in her own room in her crib. She's been napping in the crib for a couple of weeks already. I definitely slept better with her not in the room but I needed her close in the beginning.

I was sure I wanted LO to sleep in her own room from the start as I thought that would be best. Then she arrived and there was no way on earth she was going anywhere other than in the PnP next to our bed, even though her bedroom was about five feet from ours. It worked so well - we slept better knowing we could hear her little noises and movements, and it made nighttime wake ups so easy. DH would take her to her nursery to change her, then bing her back to me in bed where I could feed her. We'd alternate burping and settling her back to sleep and it was perfect.

LO stayed in our room until she was 7 months old, despite STTN from 10 weeks on. She was used to sleeping through our noises and the dim light coming from our bedside tables, so we didn't have to tiptoe around our room when going to bed. I think getting used to the noise/light from the start has helped her to not be a finicky sleeper - she doesn't need darkness, silence, or particular sounds to fall asleep, which is a wonderful, wonderful thing!

What worked for us is to have her sleep in her crib in her own room and we slept in ours. She was a noisy sleeper and was keeping us up. DH snores and kept her up. I couldn't sleep because I was on edge every time she moved. So, this plan worked better for everyone.

I voted PnP in your room. Currently, LO sleeps in an Arms Reach Cosleeper attached to our bed. It works really well for us, because I breastfeed, and I'm so tired... I couldn't imagine walking back and forth to his room in the middle of the night for his MOTN and early AM feed. In the beginning he was walking up every 1-2 hours. That would have been so hard!

We had him in a Rock n Play initially, but I switched him out of that because I wanted him to get used to sleeping flat. If we didn't have the cosleeper, we would use a PnP.

@daniellemybelle: I totally know what you mean. I had every last detail planned for my pregnancy, birth, and for when the baby was born. Turns out, nothing went as planned and I was left dissapointed in some areas and felt like I was failing. When in all reality, I just had my expectations set to high and things will happen the way they are meant and going to happen.
