Bees, help!! DH's cousin gets married in late April and the wedding is black tie. I really feel like I should wear a long dress, to be on the safe side with his family, but have no clue where to look. I REALLY would like to get a super awesome deal (between $100-$200, maybe?) on something I could wear again in the future. (So, probably black or navy, and simple.)
Any suggestions?

I have always wanted to try Rent the Runway-- I bet you could get something nice in that price range. But of course, you couldn't wear it again. That wouldn't be a big deal for me since I don't really go to black tie events ever anyway, so purchasing it would still be a one time wear in all likelihood.

I actually found a lovely black gown from White house black market on sale for $100! It was on clearance. I usually check there for nicer dresses. But they don't always have gowns.
I like BCBG's collection of evening gowns as well. Good luck and have fun shopping!

Try Rent the Runway!!! I have rented a dress before and it was awesome. A friend of mine doesn't really own a dress as she just rents them.

@mfa_lady: They send you two sizes of the same dress and you can also get a back up dress (a completely separate dress in two sizes) for about $25 in case it doesn't work.

@mfa_lady: check out the reviews and pics to get an idea of how a dress might work for your body type. With the two sizes you can get and the back up dress you can get, it works pretty well!

Try BHLDN (anthros wedding division) you'd have to order online because they don't have many stores. They have reasonably priced bridesmaids dressed that might work. I actually ordered one as my wedding dress & loved it.

@mfa_lady: I'm guessing from your username you're from MA, yes? My mom always asks me to go with her to frugal fannies for things like that. I never think of it, but always leave with tons of good stuff (not always fancy, but boden, lands end, north face)! They have a great accessory selection there, too! Can be fun to browse if you are a person that likes to see/try things in person (I am!)

JCrew is great for this--their "wedding party" dresses are fantastic quality and I have several I've picked up over the years (always check their sale section!) and rotate them through for weddings.
Great quality, and they often have some on clearance which are really fantastic deals.
I also have one or two I've gotten from Bloomingdales, but those tend to be a bit more trendy and less classic.

Agree with some others, check j. crew, especially the sale rack! The dresses are amazing quality, I got a silk bridesmaid dress to wear to my brother's wedding for $100, it totally doesn't look like a bridesmaid dress.

I have a black tie event at the end of the month and I had great luck at Nordstrom and Dillards! I wanted to try Rent The Runway but I was nervous about the sizing so I just bought a dress. I think it was $180.00 and from Dillards!

@mfa_lady: I did Rent the Runway for my engagement pictures. I'd wanted to wear my reception dress, but it needed to be taken in and wasn't ready in time for my E photos, so I did RTR with a similar red dress. They send you 2 sizes for the price and free shipping/returns. If neither size fits, you can get a second dress.
I actually went through 4 dresses to find my E photo dress. hah. The rest were awkward fits (too big or too small).

You guys are the best! I actually found out last weekend that DH's mom and sister are both wearing short dresses, so I got off the hook! Found a beautiful silk taffeta dress at JCrew online--in their clearance section--and got the $250 dress for $60, with shipping included! I'm so pumped. Thanks for all of your help!

@snowjewelz: Thanks girl! Meeee too. I think the color will be great, too--it's called "spiced wine," and I think I will be able to wear it to fancy stuff year-round!
