I was googling reviews on baby stuff such as car seats, cribs, etc. Do you think it's worth buying the subscription for consumerreports.org or is there somewhere else that anyone knows of for reliable reviews on baby stuff?

In addition to the great gear reviews here on HB, I have also used Lucie's List and the Alphamom site (Advice Smackdown from blogger Amalah, and also Amalah's Zero to Forty Pregnancy Calendar) to evaluate gear and make selections.

I like using amazon.com for reviews, but Hubs is all about Consumer Reports. I didn't find CR too helpful because they only listed info for a handful of each item, plus they didn't have reviews for all of the types of items I was looking for.

I wouldn't get a consumer reports subscription for baby stuff. I think it is really only good for cars and a few other larger items. Most of the reviews seem out of date or non existent on small items. I usually check products I'm interested in on Amazon for both price and ratings.

I used Amazon's reviews, Lucie's List, HB, and the biggest was the Baby Bargains book and website.

@rawrasaur: Ditto. I checked Consumer Reports and it didn't have a lot of reviews for baby items.

@mrsjazz: Agreed on Consumer Reports. And the Baby Bargains book. A friend of mine recommended that and I didn't make a single decision without it. HUGE help! Otherwise, I also use Amazon.

I looked at reviews from the Baby Bargains book at first, then relied on Amazon, and of course here on HelloBee!

Lucie's List and Baby Bargains -- I still refer to Baby Bargains regularly even though I've "decided" on all my registry items and made them public. I love that they take price into consideration and give you a "good, better, best" recommendation depending on how much you want/want others to spend.

Amazon is great for reviews. it lets you sort through the good reviews and the negative reviews and that way you can get a balanced opinion of the product

Baby Bargains is a huge help, especially for those, like me, who started out totally clueless and without much guidance from friends. That plus Amazon reviews was what I relied on. Wish I had known about HelloBee then...

I relied mostly on the Baby Bargains book. I've followed quite a few of their recs and haven't been disappointed so far!

I use it all, including consumer reports for important gear like car seats and strollers. Baby Bargains is good too if it's a recent one. I also read Amazon's reviews as well but sometimes it's too overwhelming. I also asked around among my friends as well.
