For my upcoming 38th birthday id love to get a makeover. I feel like I've been using the same makeup and techniques since high school and would love to try some new colors and update my style. Have you done this before? Where would you recommend?

@BeachMama: I would recommend going to Ulta. I've never had a makeover there but I've heard it's great. And you may need to call first to see if you need a appt. .

I like Sephora! They have lots of brands, and the session is free if you buy $50 worth of merchandise. Definitely get an appointment.

I've tried Sephora and MAC. I loved MAC (not the counter but an actual MAC store). They set me up with a good routine.

I have been looking into spas for make up lessons...they usually offer an application, but I think it would be good to try out things that you want to learn, such as contouring, smoky eye, etc.

I've gone to Ulta and Mac. The Ulta make up artist was better at teaching me techniques and since the entire store was full of products at her disposal she helped me select hIgh and low options.

I've gone to Bare Minerals and Mac. Mac totally overdid my makeup and didn't look natural at all. Bare Minerals was more subtle and I really liked it.
I'd be interested in checking out Sephora since they offer a wide range of products.

Make an appointment at MAC- they are awesome. And have plans for dinner that night.

I can't remember where you live- Nordstrom has a MAC counter but you can also check out other products.

I like Sephora best for helping me pick out products. They can offer what's best for your skin and coloring, without being restricted to one brand like MAC. They also have this cool thing where they can analyze your skin and see which foundation matches your skin the best.

Thanks guys. I was thinking Sephora but I know the staff at MAC have to be more highly trained. But I also like the idea of not being tied to one brand.
@youboots: I live in Southern California so I could definitely hit up a Norstroms
