Where to go for mid-January long weekend?

DH and I are trying to plan a long weekend getaway for MLK day weekend in January. MIL has graciously volunteered to take LO for the weekend so it will be just me and DH. I'll be about 25 weeks pregnant.

We'll be flying out of either Boston or Providence and right now my only criteria are that we don't have too much travel time (maybe a 4 hr flight max) and that it be at least a little warmer than Boston. Any suggestions? Right now, our main contender is New Orleans, but I'd like to come up with some other ideas.

in the US? I'd head south for some warmth: Charleston, Orlando, Nashville (okay not a lot warmer but pretty), Dallas, Austin.

I'm pretty sure some of the Caribbean islands would be close to 4 hours from Boston - Bahamas or Puerto Rico

I second Charleston. Also suggest Savannah. And I've never been, but have heard great things about Key West!

puerto rico is an easy direct flight from boston.

I would go to Puerto Rico. The Southern US is still pretty cold in January.

@LuLu Mom: @littlebug: Thanks for the suggestions! I did not think of Charleston. Will definitely put it on our list to look into!

@brady80: @Truth Bombs: I asked DH about Puerto Rico and he seemed not so enthusiastic. We're not really resort/beach people so that's probably why. I assume there's tons of stuff to do there other than just the beach though. Definitely need to research a little more! Thanks!

@catlady: I just saw this. Charleston is a wonderful city. I live in New Orleans, and it's a fabulous long weekend place. However, not sure if I do it pregnant. So much of the fun of it is the food and cocktail scene. Charleston is similar but less so. Even if January, Kiawah Island outside Charleston is an incredibly beautiful resort. I'd go there over Nola.

That being said, if you decide on Nola, let me know and I'll be happy to give you some recommendations on sights/eats.

@catlady: def head south, but its good you arent beachy people bc not even in Miami are you guaranteed beach weather in Jan! You'd want the islands for that for sure!

Nassau has direct flights from Boston!

Old San Juan in PR is great!

NOLA is top of my list - so that is a great idea too!

@mrsjd: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @Mrs D: Hi ladies, thank you all for your suggestions. I had forgotten this thread was still open though, and we decided to cancel our trip since we lost the pregnancy and now aren't sure what will be happening in January. Still definitely looking forward to visiting all these places in the future one day!
