I have two sets of friends: in California where I grew up, and in New York where I've been living the past 11 years.
My California friends I mostly met in high school and the church I attended from 7th grade on.
My closest New York friends I met through my personal blog! They are still some of my best friends. And more recently a lot of parent friends I've met on the playground and through daycare/preschool/elementary school.

I've tended to keep about 3 friends each from different stages of life.... high school, college, work (tons of turnover.) The majority of my current friends are from church, since that has been the most consistent in the past 5 years.

90% of my friends I kept since childhood, since I never moved away from the region I grew up in until May of this year. My best friend is someone I knew since I was about 6 years old. My only friends here in Australia are my family or my husband's friends, lol. I haven't had much chance for interaction really, since I wouldn't know where to start looking for them. I am really close with my sister in law here, however, we don't get together as often as I'd like.

Current friends - through DH. We're in his 2nd hometown. And some of my former colleagues are my friends.
