I've noticed that a lot of the stores have less of a selection than previous years. Even the clothes in the gender neutral sections look less neutral to me (frills and flowers/blues and bold trims). Please recommend the best place to look for gender neutral NB clothing that will ship to the US.

I gave up and just did a Google search and it came up with gender neutral pages for the sites I was already on ... but the link wasn't available on the actual store itself. Weird.

I find the boys section at gap has a lot of greys and neutral basics

Gap is usually good and for gifts, Boden usually has a few options. Carter’s in store definitely has more. Unfortunately online you just have to sort through the boy/girl baby selection for neutrals.

I haven’t shopped there yet but Primary, no crazy designs, just bold solid colors mostly. I was also going to suggest Burt’s bees. H&M usually has some but you have to search. I remember that being an annoyance back in 2013 when I was team green.

Primary I forgot about! I order from there for my 2yo and really happy with the quality. I have not tried any of their layette.
Some of Hanna Anderrson prints and stripes are neutral too, they are having a good sale today plus Ebates. The first time we were team green I did not do Hanna but I have picked up some neutral items this time around since the quality is so high and we do hope to have a third. Honestly I end up shopping online a lot in the early days so I found I only needed gender neutral for a week or so (multiple outfits a day).

H&M and Zara both always have a decent selection of cream/heather oatmeal/ light grey, and then like pp said Hanna anderssen always has gender neutral patterns and yellow stuff. I knew I was having a boy but I got mostly this stuff, and def got some rainbow stripe leggings and bunny/lemon/etc prints that were intended for girls but he looked awesome in. Now I’m having a girl and I think I can reuse almost everything

Agree with Gap and Primary. Primary seems to run a little small for their baby stuff (don't find the same to be true for kids) so I might order up a size, but the fabric is very soft and doesn't get pilly. DD2 was growing out of her 9 month Primary about the same time as 6 month everything else (both length & width).

Also on the $$ side, mini rodini, soft gallery, and my favorite brand tinycottons usually have really fun stuff that I get through alexandalexa, which has free shipping and returns. Def I only buy on sale and few and far between though!

I had good luck at carters in store until they added Osh Kosh to our store and they got rid of the neutral baby section. Burts bees baby has a lot of stuff that works either way in the boy section. I also found some great sleepers in the boys section at Gymboree. At Target, Cloud Island is almost all gender neutral and its super soft, Cat & Jack also had a couple options.
