Our home will be ready to move in soon and its so hard deciding on things! What bar stools do you have? I'm torn between a stool that blends into the bar so it is "hidden" in plain view when not in use, versus one that contrasts. I am 70% sure I want to go with a backless saddle seat style like these for our high bar but I cant decide on the color

We have ones from West Elm - metal with wood - they have backs though b/c I didn't want the kids falling off of them!

Blending in or not, the white ones you pictures are really nice looking.

of the two you posted, the black would be more durable and timeless. The tops of the white ones can either fall out of style, or become damaged and need to be replaced. For those reasons, I'd go with the black.

Out of those two I would go with the white ones.
We just got rid of the brown ones that you have pictured. With kids backs were really proving to be necessary.

the white ones look really nice and would be more comfortable, so that's my vote. I would prefer ones with backs though.

I agree my mom has backless ones and the kids have a hard time with them. They also seem to tip fairly easily due to their shape (and hers are nicer pretty sturdy ones). We had round barstools that didn't have backs that were much harder to tip.

@Mrsbells: of the kids will be sitting on them I think the fabric too white ones could get pretty dirty. I also think they would be more comfortable though. We had something very similar to the black ones and they were fine for us until I was pregnant, then it got really uncomfortable to sit on them for long.

I have dark ones that contrast but with a softer top. I'd go with comfort and choose the white/gray ones.

yeah so we arent getting the stools for the kids because we will have a breakfast table and a dining table as well. but eventually I assume they will want to sit on them. I can see my 5 year old already wanting to sit on them.

@Foodnerd81: DH thinks the same thing abou the white ones getting dirty, and the darker ones are much cheaper too

If there are buttons on the seat, they attract crumbs and dirt and it can be hard to clean around them. I'd go for flat seats.

@Mrsbells: our stools don't have backs and we've never had an issue!
My kids were almost 2 and almost 4 when we bought ours. I have emeco counter stools. I like that I can push ours under the overhanging part of our island when we're not using them.

@Mrsbells: I love the look of the white one but it is not practical with kids - the tops will get dirty so fast and one swipe of a dirty hand around those nail heads and you will be cleaning them with a toothpick trying to get the grime out - ha! and ugh!
Go with black!

I have the darker ones. We have a mixture of light countertops and darker floors. My daughter sits fine on it but like anything we had to tell her how to sit on them properly and watch at first so she wouldn't fall.
