SO...I think I might be getting strep throat. My niece had it at Thanksgiving, and I now have a sore throat that is getting worse instead of better. My question is, now that I'm pregnant, do I call my OB, or do I go see my Family Doc?

I'd call the family doc. Usually they know what antibiotics are ok for pregnant women. They may tell you to talk to your OB, though.
I think it also depends on insurance.

Family doc. I had a big sinus infection while pregnant and I happen to have an OB appointment that week and asked her about it. And she was like "yeeahh... that's way outside of my area of expertise, you're going to need to see your GP"

Oh, that's interesting, I was actually told to call my OB first when I was sick while pregnant! I didn't know that was out of the ordinary

i called my OB for everything, they were always happy to have me come in. i just felt more comfortable with them telling me which meds i could take.

I would call my OB, talk to the nurse and then they would tell me who I should see. I think it just depends on the type of sickness.

@jmarionsmith: @Bookish: My OB knew my GP quite well since she delivered my GP's children as well. Maybe she trusted her to properly care for me? My OB just didn't feel qualified to determine if I needed an antibiotic for the sinus infection.

@MamaMoose: oh i'm sure! i'd much prefer that than taking an unnecessary medicine. my ob did refer to me to specialists when they didn't feel comfortable diagnosing, like when i broke out in hives. i first called my ob who had me come in and then referred me to a dermatologist.

I'd call my fam doctor. My OB told me during my first appointment to call her for any abdominal/pelvic type issues but to call my regular doc for normal seasonal type illnesses.

@MamaMoose: Oh that's nice! My doctors didn't know each other at all, that's really cool that you had a link there.

@Mae: I was just at my OB for my first appointment yesterday - but I forgot to mention my throat, and forgot to ask which doctor I call! We'll blame it on the excitement!

@Mrs.Ham: haha that is a good excuse! At my anatomy scan on Monday the doctor told me to stop on the way out to make an appointment for a follow-up ultrasound to check some issues but I got distracted by this "boy/girl" wall they had set up for you to take pics in front of and by the time we were done posing for pics we totally forgot (not just me, but me + my husband + both my parents who were in the room and heard the doc say it!) and all walked out. I called the next day when I remembered and the lady laughed so hard at me. She's like you got so distracted by the gender wall all 4 of you forgot? YUP.
