If you buy organic milk, which brand do you buy?
Why? Just what they have at your store?
Thanks!

We buy organic milk from Costco.
Kirkland signature brand?
We pay $9 for 1.5 gallons.

Organic Valley 2%! The only one our commissary carries. I sometimes buy the Sainsburys/Tesco brand too.

I buy the organic milk from BJ's - the brand is Earth's Pride Organics. I think I pay around $6.50 for 2 half gallons.

horizon organics
or the organic brand from costco
I think organic milk tastes better!

@misolee: you do?! My brothers usually buy horizon organic so I've had it before and I so prefer regular. But it's been a long time since I've had cow's milk.

My fave thing about organic milk is that it doesn't expire for like 2 months!!!

Usually store brand or Horizon when it is on sale.

@regberadaisy: it has a smoother and cleaner taste. can't explain it but I also am slightly lactose and organic milk doesn't make my stomach hurt as much as regular milk.

We buy Horizon at the commissary for $5.28/half-gallon. They also have Organic Valley but it's a little more expensive.

Horizon because it is the cheapest at our supermarket.

Trader Joe's. I'd love to find a local creamery with grass fed cows though. Organic milk is easy to find... Grass fed, not so much.

Horizon or Strauss family farms. Both are soooo yummy and are antibiotic/hormone free Strauss is grass fed and comes in the prettiest glass jars

I'm surprised at all the Costco folks. We love Costco but organic milk is something we do not buy from there.
The Publix grocery store brand is about $6 per gallon
Walmart carries some too for about $5 a gallon. I do not understand though bc theirs has a MUCH longer expiration date. Anyone know why?

straus whole milk with the cream top. i think it might be sold only west of the mississippi. their milk comes from cows on one farm. it's pasteurized instead of ultra-pasteurized. oh, and it just tastes better.
sometimes we'll get claravale farm raw milk, but that's available only in CA.

I usually buy Central Market (my store's organic brand). Lately there has been a shortage so I've been buying Horizon.

I get my milk from a local dairy delivery service. If I have to skip a delivery, then I get the store brand or horizon if its on sale.

@T.H.O.U.: I've noticed this about the wal mart brand too, and I think it is probably due to how efficient they are in their distribution compared to other organic brands they sell like organic valley. Since most organic milk is ultra pasteurized, it all lasts for a very long time, but wal mart has such a huge network, they probably get it to the shelf faster. That's my guess anyway.

I think organic milk has a long shelf life bc it's ultra pasteurized.
I buy store brand organic milk everywhere but giant - I have bought 2 half gallons of their store brand that were well within their sell by date and they were spoiled!
So if I am there I buy whichever brand is cheapest. For some reason though organic valley is in the organic aisle. -and horizon and stony field are with the regular milk.

what's the difference between pasteurized and ultra pasteurized??
@duckduckkristen: I'm surprised there aren't any near you? My cousin in law told me there are a few near us bc that's what she buys. I'm still torn between organic vs raw vs grass fed non homogenized.
coconut / 8299 posts
Organic Valley. I like it because it's grass-fed, non homogenizedm milk.

@evansjamie: i wish we had dairy delivery! i didn't know they still did that
cantaloupe / 6687 posts
Organic valley or horizon
@misolee: I'm lactose intolerant and normally can't drink milk but I can drink organic milk with some food (cookies or cake) and i don't have any tummy problems (or very minimal)
honeydew / 7235 posts
Horizon. Initially bought because it was cheapest, but now we love the taste!

@softcream: it's something that has started up in the last year in my city. I found out about it because of an article in the paper, and it has just exploded. It's the only dairy delivery in the state.
