What part of the country are you in? I live in the south, and in my experience we didn't really use any of the thick blankets we got as gifts-- we ended up giving them away to a pregnancy center. Of course I wouldn't give away one that was personalized! But anyway, I didn't take a look at all the blankets, but I would suggest a light one. That way it can be used for a swaddle, or as a car seat blanket...since it is almost summer, your friend may not want to use a heavy blanket as a car seat blanket, and by the time it is cold enough for a heavy one, she may have started dressing the baby in warmer clothes; I think we stopped using a car sear blanket after LO was about 9 months old and was wearing jeans/sweaters, etc.

Someone got us the Micro fleece silk trim stroller blanket and we love it. My son is 2.5 and that's the blanket he takes to daycare. We know it will never be lost since it's personalized. It's a lightweight fleece.
