We just stayed in a hotel last night and it made me think....completely random but I'm curious...
1. When you say the left or right side of the bed is it as you are looking at it or as you are in it?
2. Which side to you sleep on??

I've always said the left and right as you are looking at it.. so my side is the left.. but the right if we are in it

I always think if you were laying in it on your back.
Then, I'm the right.

I'm on the right side when laying in it. I'm also closest to the door since I am the one that gets up with the kids in the middle of the night. When DS2 was still in our room as a newborn, I was on the left side of the bed since his bed was over there.
We tend to switch sides every couple of years.

I always describe it as where my husband is in relationship to me, so at home he always sleeps on my right, sometimes while traveling it makes more sense to switch but I'm not super happy about that.

I voted based on our current configuration - but really my side is the 'side closest to the door'. We moved bedrooms last fall after being in our house/original bedroom for 5 years and switched sides!
This is because I like to be closer to the door since I was/am the one getting up more often during the night for kids and the bathroom

Used to be right as I'm laying there. Now I'm the left but it's because of our bed sharing arrangement

I always sleep closest to the door. In our room, I sleep on the right as you are looking at the bed

At home, I sleep on the left as you are looking at it, but when we go away I sleep on the side furthest from the door no matter what side it is on.

@Ms. RV: yes! That’s me too! Always furthest from the door. Which in our current house is right while laying down.

We tend to switch sides every couple of years. Right now I'm on the left, because I've had 2 babies the past 4 years and prefered to keep them on my left.

I like to sleep closest to the bathroom, which is usually closest to the door too. (Currently that is right if you are looking at it)
But I’ve always said right or left as you are looking at it, because you could lay on your back or your stomach in bed and that would affect left or right!

@KT326: omg - you switch?! This gives me anxiety! I have slept on the same side of the bed for nearly 10 years now, even when I'm alone I don't swap (well let's be honest, I sleep like a starfish in the middle). DH thinks he's funny sometimes and will plop down on my side because he doesn't want to warm his up (in the summertime), and I get really annoyed until he moves over!
I'm the driver! (left side if you were sitting in the bed with your back against the headboard).

@PinkElephant: we like to change things up! Plus our mattress sucks so if we switch sides it’s like we are sleeping on a different mattress hahaha

I have to sleep on the right (passenger), even in hotels when my husband insists on being closest to the door. When he works overnights I'll sleep in the middle... Unless my 3 year old is splayed out like a start fish in the middle.

I sleep in the drivers seat. I actually have a hard time if we are somewhere else and I have to sleep in the other side.
This spot currently puts me closest to the door and bathroom. This works good since I’m up with the baby and DS1 comes to me in the morning.

@PinkElephant: Yes! I've slept on the right (while in bed) for the 10+ years DH and I have been together. I don't particularly care but he can't sleep if we switch.
