So part of me wants to order a cute gender-neutral onesie or other gift to surprise my DH with once we get a BFP. My fear, though, is that it will take awhile to get a BFP and I will have this cute gift in my closet that makes me depressed every time I see it! But I won't have the time (or patience) to wait until after we get a BFP to get something...I will want to tell him right away. If you did get something to surprise your DH with, what was it? Do you think it's a bad idea to do so?

Nope I was afraid of jinxing myself. And my first pregnancy ended in miscarrige so I was REALLY glad I hadn't given him anything because it would have just been sitting in our house as a reminder of what had happened.

I sort of had planned to in the back of my mind, but like you wasn't going to buy one before a BFP. And then of course when I GOT the BFP all I could do was throw the test in his face 5 minutes after the positive because I couldn't think straight enough to do anything else. Except post the test on HB, of course.

I did. I'd been thinking about it for a while, getting him from our college or his favorite baseball team, but I was nervous about jinxing it or having it around as a reminder for what hadn't happened yet. But then I saw the perfect thing and I knew it would be difficult to buy it later.
If anyone's SO like the Chive, you know how hard it is to get the KCCO t-shirts-- I actually got him 2 shirts from there and they have always been the wrong size, so when I saw the KCCO onesie was going to be available, I scooped it up. I hope to be able to give it to him soon! I figure I'll tell him I'm SURE I got the right size this time...

@Foodnerd81: My DH is obsessed with the English Premier League (even though we live in the States!) so I was thinking of getting him a onesie from his favorite team. That onesie you got your DH is so cute!

I bought one at walmart one day when I was convinced I was pregnant. I wasn't though, and it sat hidden in my closet for another 8 months. I for sure woke DH up with it the morning I got my BFP though.

I plan on getting a tiny pair of Vans to tell my husband, but I know I can get those at the mall and just hit it on my way home from work. I typically do my testing in the mornings after my husband has left for work (I don't have to be in until 9), so I could easily cover it I think.

I got Hubs a "house divided" onesie. He's a Penn State alum, and I'm a Pitt alum, so the onesie has a heart with 1/2 PSU fabric and 1/2 Pitt fabric.
ETA: Right after we got our BFP and I gave him the onesie, I found one that says "Future Assistant Brewer," and I really wish I'd seen that one first, cuz Hubs is a homebrewer.

I definitely think I will. So far, I haven't even wondered through a baby aisle. I don't think it would make me more emotional, cause to like to plan things out. I just would be worried about frivolously spending too much, but def wouldn't feel guilty about onsies!
and like others said, I think it would be hard to keep from hubs for hours while I went on onsies search! Def want to do more than yell it in his face, so I've always been bad with surprises -
@Smurfette: Ha that's my problem and why I need to order something now if I am going to....I need to be able to just reach into my closet, grab it, and shove it in his face!

I did! I had a onesie made. DH owns a small business and so the onesie has his logo & the words Future Employee. It has been sitting in a closet in an extra bedroom for 10 months. For me, putting it out of sight has been a key to not regretting the early purchase. I am glad I have it for whenever I finally get a BFP!

I have a womp womp story, so don't let mine totally sway you because there is some good to come of it!
I ordered a onesie with our last name on the back, my husband's college # on it (so it looked like a jersey, was in purple and gold of course for my alma mater LSU), He watches Game Day every Saturday for college football, and so I had the front personalized to say "Game Day with Daddy." I got it on Etsy and it was SOOOO cute! Well, the womp womp part is that it took at least 6 or 7 months after getting that onesie before I got a sticky bfp, and by that time I had had an emotional breakdown about not being able to get/stay pregnant and ended up pulling out the onesie and showing it to him and bawling my face off about how I was so scared that I'd never get to use it, and how it drove me crazy knowing it was in the top of the closet every month when I had my BFN-Fest.
BUT when we did get sticky Harper, and after we knew she was healthy and had a sweet little heartbeat, DH asked to see that onesie again and I got to pull it out and he fawned all over it. He thought it was an awesome idea and he really loved it, and still references that she's going to watch Game Day with Daddy every Saturday. So I think it's a good idea to have a clever one ready to go- but just don't let it taunt you and frustrate you and eventually have a mental breakdown after a bottle of wine, lol....And hopefully it will take you no time at all to get a BFP anyway, so you'll get to use it asap!
Hers is hanging in her closet now and I'm going to put her in it with a purple tutu when she gets here....Even though college football will be over....He'll still appreciate it:)

Nope I just showed him the test. Neither of us is a fan ceremonial stuff, though a cute gift would have been fun to put together and i definitely thought about it!

@PrincessBaby: That's a really sweet story...and I'm so glad it has a happy ending! That's what I am worried about, though...whipping it out after having a bottle of wine and bawling my face off is something I would totally do. I am thinking I will order it but just not open the box when it arrives. I will just put the box at the top of my closet; I think opening it and seeing the onesie/touching it will just cause me to go in there every day and stare at it!

@lawbee11: I am glad I had it. I put it in a place where I wouldn't see it all the time, so it wasn't taunting me when I got BFNs and I never really went and looked at it. It took us nearly a year to get pregnant, which was difficult emotionally, but I didn't have a problem with having that one hidden baby item in the house. I really liked having something to give to DH that morning besides just shoving a pee stick in his face. I put it in a box with a bow on top and woke him up with it... He was groggy and kind of confused, but then I was able to show him the test. It always put a smile on my face later when LO would wear that onesie (doesn't fit anymore though).

@lawbee11: the one I bought is still in the packing envelope that it came in, tucked away in a bin I rarely use, so I feel OK about it so far, but I only ordered it this month. Unless the timing works out weird, I'll probably tell him before I give him the onesie anyway, but it will be fun to give him right away.

Oh, something else I wanted to tell you....You could video giving it to him too:) It sounds drastic, I know...I had gotten some faint positives, and I was scared it was a third chemical, so DH and I agreed I would wait another week to retest to give the pregnancy time to "go away" if that's what it was going to do. I was scared to death a week later when I sat in the bathroom with a CBE Digi (he was offshore at work), and as terrified as I was, I still kind of knew it would still be positive, so I videoed with my iphone and when it popped up pregnant, I started bawling my face off and held it up to the phone and said a little something to DH. We have looked at it a few times while pregnant- it's kind of tough to watch bc it's so emotional- but we're really glad we have that video:)

I love this idea, and actually already have bookmarked a couple adorable onsies to order closer to when we start TTC this spring. One is a soccer themed onsie, since my husband really looks forward to teaching our kids his favorite sport, and the other says "Trust Me My Dad's An Engineer" as a nod to my husband's profession. So far I haven't been able to decide which would be best to gift along with a BFP. Probably I'll end up buying both, and stashing them somewhere where I won't remember to look for them again until they're needed.

Before our m/c, I bought onesies off etsy that said "i love my grandma and grandpa... coming soon april 2013" to tell DH's parents. So with the same order, I got another that said "made with love by ash & DH". So when our time comes again, I'll probably give him that one... if he isn't the one reading the test, of course!

I had a onesie and was going to wrap it up and present it in a cute way. But, I did the whole wave it in his face thing. Sadly, that pregnancy ended at 20 weeks. We still have it, but that won't be the first thing I give him.

I was in the "afraid of jinxing things" camp, so no. I think I actually waited til the second trimester (or close to it) to make any baby purchases. Hubby was there when I took the test, and he's actually the one who spotted the BFP...it didn't appear instantaneously like I expected it to, so I had stalked away and was pouting in another room when he called out "ummm.....I think there's a line here!!!" So, strangely, HE got to announce my pregnancy to ME.

No, I POAS and ran into the bedroom (he was still sleeping) and jumped on the bed, shoving the pee stick in his face.
My husband's priceless reaction, "am I holding something you've peed on?"

I didn't buy anything in advance, I just felt like that would be tempting fate. In the end I "felt" pregnant before I went to the shop to get a FRER, while I was out I got a "Daddy" card and give it to him when the test came back positive. I suppose I am superstitious but I wouldn't have felt comfortable buying anything in advance.
I am almost 11 weeks and still haven't made baby/maternity purchases. Just dont feel comfortable doing so yet.

I didn't because it doesn't "fit" our relationship to do something kind of cutesie like that.. I've mentioned to my husband how a lot of women do this and he isn't a fan; AT ALL. If you know your husband would like it and it fits your relationship to do cute things, I say go for it!

DH has been asking for a watch for a while. I told him I would get him one if he got me knocked up. We went and picked it out but I am hesitating on buying it because it's $400. Although right now I can get $100 off of it because of the sale they have going on...Not sure what I want to do cause if we don't get a BFP for a while or ever I'd hate to just have it lying around.

Totally! I ran down to the local shop and got a onesie that represents our city, wrapped up the pee stick that said "pregnant," and I tried desperately to find Tiny Toms to buy, but ended up printing a picture out and ordering them online. I was able to get it together by the end of the day but I was totally scrambling. We ended up miscarrying and getting pregnant again soon thereafter, but those gifts were still so special and memorable to us both. Oh, and I bought him a bottle of wine.

I got a little jersey from our college. I had it in my closet sitting there until we got the BFP and it was a great moment watching him figuring it out and then we m/c and it is still sitting in my closet. Hubby wasn't sure what to do with it after the m/c.

I was having trouble coming up with a good gift item. My husband (ironically) has had a onesie from his college since college, LOL. He randomly won it in a raffle thing - imagine my surprise when I first came across that! I couldn't think of anything else that didn't scream either boy or girl. I had bookmarked a nursery CD on Amazon and forgot about it until now! It's a lullaby version of a bunch of Dave Matthews Band songs (he's obsessed!) so I ordered that and a new Daddy book to have on hand, just in case

So I got my BFP last night! I was far too excited when I saw the second line to get this out and give it to him (I basically ran into the living room screaming OMG I think I see a line!), but I did end up ordering a cute set to give DH. I am planning on giving it to him tonight when I get home. We live in the US, but he's obsessed with the English Premier League (Arsenal is his favorite team--we went on a tour of their stadium when we were in London on our honeymoon) so I got this for him--can't wait to give it to him!!
