Who in your household cooks? And I'm talking about full meals... not quick breakfasts or warming things up.

right now, my mom is living with us in between moves and cooks a lot of our meals for us!
normally, i cook 99% of the time. dh only cooks on two days (my birthday and mother's day) he does grill during the summer tho

I chose "we both cook - I cook more" I do most of the dinner/lunch cooking, but DH does most of the breakfasts for us!
grapefruit / 4278 posts
It used to be more of an even split, but DH works until 8:30 now, so I do most of the cooking so that we aren't eating at 11pm every night. He cooks on weekends still sometimes.

DH cooks 90% of the time. I'm always nursing LO around dinner time so unless we want to eat at 8pm, he ends up cooking. Fine by me, I don't like to!

Well, I voted we both cook, but I cook more, although recently I've been cooking 98% of the time because he started grad school and is just too busy - sometimes too busy to even eat what I cook. It used to be about 50/50, but I guess those days are gone! Sometimes he will "cook" if I'm working late and have prepped everything that morning so he just has to stick it in the oven. I'm still getting used to this "new normal" for us.

Wagon Sr. has pretty much taken over breakfasts, and it's about a 50/50 split for packing lunches (whoever has less to do the night before). But dinner is always me, unless we have company and we grill. Then he grills and I take care of all the sides, apps, etc. So I chose We both cook (I cook more). And of course the last option because after typing out all those options, the word Cook absolutely has no meaning anymore!

My SO cooks! Lol. I "help" but he normally just kicks me out of the kitchen. I can't complain though, I hate cooking.

I'm dying over your poll!!!!
We both cook but I currently cook more because he works two nights and Saturdays till 6pm (dinner time). But the other nights we cook together OR I pick up the slack if he's doing stuff around the house renovation wise.
I'll say it's currently a 60/40 split.
He loves cooking and wishes he had more time to cook!
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
Oh no! I'm the only one to vote "No one". We rarely ever have full home cooked meals in our house. We eat a lot at home but just small meals we make for ourselves. When we do cook we usually do it together or DH does it. He actually enjoys it while I have food anxiety from my extreme pickiness.
Now that LO is on the way I'd like to get in the habit of cooking every night.

I cook. DH will cook the meat when we're doing it on the BBQ, but that's the extent of it. He doesn't know how to time manage when it comes to cooking a full meal.
pomegranate / 3983 posts
I cook pretty much always. From time to time he will make something like pancakes on the weekends if he's home, but the default is that I cook.
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
I voted dh cooks everything, but it's probably more like 75/25 him. We make our own breakfasts usually, and our own lunches about half the time (we both work from home, but we like to eat different things for lunch). He makes almost all dinners, BUT I'm really proud of myself for making us a lovely dinner the other night--crustless vegetable quiche with an apple/fennel salad on the side. I actually really like to cook and am good at it too, but dh LOVES it, it's his passion (he even has a food blog!), so he does the bulk of it. When we have dinner parties, we both cook.

We both cook, but DH definitely cooks more. Luckily, he is an excellent cook!
pear / 1812 posts
Before Mat leave either he would cook or we would eat out (sooo healthy right). But now I do all the cooking. Its just easier since I am the one who had the time for meal planning.

@Danizaur: In our house, before Wagon Jr. started eating regular food, NO one cooked! After he graduated from baby food we ONLY cooked his meals. As in, boiled plain pasta and cut up rotisserie chicken. And steamed vegetables.
Before that we always got takeout or ate out. Eating out was (and still is) one of my favorite things to do, period!! We never bought fancy things or went on vacations... we just ate out all the time.
Oh also, I am very picky about food as well! Less picky now... but back then I was extremely picky.
So you are not alone

Before baby I cooked all the time. Now I cook lunch (a hot meal and our main meal of the day) and Dh makes dinner- either a toasted sandwich or something quick in the oven.

once in a blue moon DH will make pasta and warm up frozen meatballs, but that's about it. this morning he packed his own lunch, it rocked my world, lol. normally i get up, make his breakfast, pack his lunch, and then while i'm home midday, i start dinner or put it in the crockpot, when i get home i finish cooking before he gets home. in his defense, i only work 30hrs, so i have a lot more free time.

I cook most of the time. Husband is able to cook and does. He makes easy things, though. He's very resourceful.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
DH cooks 95% of the time I clean the kitchen afterwards. It's a nice deal.

Normally it's me unless it's rice porridge, eggs, or spaghetti, then it's the hubby.

I cook 98% of the time, but DH sometimes does breakfast on the weekends...omelets and grits.

Me exclusively. DH has trouble even heating up leftovers, it drives me crazy. He did recently mention that he wants to take a cooking class in preparation for the baby coming and the fact that he'll have to start pitching in, but I can't seem to find a good, basic class around here. I don't need him to learn how to make sushi rolls or artisan breads, I need him to learn how to boil pasta and warm up frozen veggies!!

@PurplePeony: there is hope!! our first is now almost 4 and Wagon Sr. has gone from cereal and yogurt (couldn't even make toast in the toaster) to full breakfasts! eggs every morning.
pomegranate / 3729 posts
@mrs. wagon: We are the same way. We never take vacations or buy fancy things, but we LOVE to eat out. And I am not even talking good food. Pre-baby it was like the 99 three nights a week. lol.
Right now, it's about even on who cooks dinner. I make P's lunches twice a week, and DH and I make our own breakfast and lunch.

I didn't respond, because I didn't see the right option. I love that you hate people with a cook. I would LOVE to be someone's chef!! Let me know if you are ever hiring (and want another family living with you ). I cook pretty much everything, but Mr. T makes Sunday (or other day of the week) breakfast regularly. He's a good cook, also, but I love cooking and have more time to do it, so I am the primary chef. When we first got together he used to send pictures of our meals to people because I like to cook fancy and he was always really proud and impressed. Now he just says that everything I make is "okay." He's spoiled, I think.

As a general rule, I cook and he does the dishes. But since getting pregnant, he's been cooking more, because raw meat and I are not friends. Now, I'd say it is about 60-40 me to him cooking. The only exception is pork chops. He always cooks the pork chops, because for the life of me, I cannot cook them correctly!
nectarine / 2031 posts
From the moment I got pregnant he cooked everything all three meals if he was off. Nite that I'm home and want to do paleo. I cook. On the weekends he did make breakfast.
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
I cook everything and DH does the dishes. He doesn't get home until late most nights so we wouldn't eat if he was in charge of dinner.
papaya / 10343 posts
I cook everything that gets cooked inside. My husband cooks things we eat on the grill. Whoever didn't cook cleans up!
honeydew / 7444 posts
@Mrs. Twine: Hahaha, that's so me! We were long distance, so i'd make these fancy meals when we got together. But honestly, if we continued that route we'd both be 200lbs. Now it's like, "yeah, it's fine." "Fine? What does fine mean?"
pomelo / 5220 posts
my DH tries to help, annoys me("Where is the colander?" "Is tbsp tablespoon?" "How much chicken should I make?" and I just end up saying I will just do it!
grapefruit / 4712 posts
I cook a lot of time. However, DH does cook or help me with dinner. DH went to culinary school, I think of it as a big treat when he decides to just whip up dinner. The other night he made the most yummy pork chop dinner.

DH works until 6 M-F, so i cook. if he has off, or on the weekends he will cook. but i cook 95% of the meals.

Dh cooks most of the time, however I do cook on occasion. I usually will do big meals when we host dinner parties. Dh cooks meals for the 2 of us.

I pretty much cook everything. I'm in school twice a week at night, and my husband will make himself some tortellini sometimes.
apricot / 344 posts
I cook 98% of the time. I *love* to cook, and am the one that is home, so I take full responsibility of the task.
My husband likes to cook, too and has no problem taking over if I don't feel like it.
