DH cut the cord for both girls, and was excited about it, not grossed out at all. It was in our plan the entire time for him to do it, I think we were even asked beforehand if he was interested in doing it. I'm curious if your SO cut the cord as well, or if somebody else did. If so, who?

DH did for both! He was a little unsure for the first one but he's really glad he did.

The dr for Dd1, she needed to be checked out right away
Dd2 was such a blur, she came SO FAST. They asked DH if he wanted to but he said no. Literally at that second my sister came running in the room. They asked her if she wanted to cut it so she did. She was all teary, it was sweet. I still laugh when I think about the chaos and how confused I was.

DH said that he didn't want to do it beforehand. After she came out the doctor said ok Dad, here you go, and he did. I asked if he felt pressure to do it and he said no, when the moment came he wanted too.

My first was an emergency c-section so the doctor did. My second was another c-section after an attempted vbac but it was way different. It was a "gentle" c-section so hubby was able to be more involved. The doctor left a good chunk of it for him to cut. He loved it!

@regberadaisy: haha it was sweet! She came running in the room thinking I was still in labour. Little did she know I had a seconds old baby (and the aftermath that comes with that) LOL.

The dr cut the cord for ds (c section) but I'm not sure who cut it for dd. I'm guessing the dr because it was a pretty traumatic delivery (shoulder dystocia).

DH did for the first and got grossed out. The doctor did it for my other two.

DH had zero interest beforehand and they asked him in the moment and he declined.

My DH for both. We never really discussed it beforehand. It was just a "in the moment" decision.

It was a complicated L&D so the dr cut both cords for my twins. DH was able to trim one of them after baby was out, but he can't remember which one! I'm guessing it was Alice, but not sure. Things were a little crazy and almost nothing went as planned. He had to leave the room for DS's birth since it was an emergency C, but he was back shortly after DS was suctioned and checked out by NICU. I guess it's possible he could have trimmed the cord then?

Not for DS because he was whisked away to the NICU. I don't know if DH cared, but for some reason it was crazy important to me that he cut the cord for DD. I think it was part of me wanting a 'do over' on the whole process.

DH and I had discussed it beforehand, and he decided that he wanted to cut the cord. However, my OB ended up cutting it because she had to whisk him to the other side of the room for some interventions. I wouldn't mind cutting it myself for some future kid, but if DH wanted to try again I would defer to him.

DH initially didn't think he wanted to do it, but he talked to some other dads that convinced him and I think he's glad he did.

My husband wanted to but was never given the option. They just did it and it was a bit of a letdown actually.
Maybe we'll ask about it ahead of time this go round. -

My mom. Labor was happening so fast DH was kind of in shock and said no. In the middle of pushing the Dr. was like "mom do you want grandma to cut the cord." I was like "I DON'T FUCKING CARE!". haha.
DH ended up trimming the cord back when they were weighing him. It was nice that after the shock wore off the nurses tried giving him the opportunity. -
The Doctor.... hubs and i talked about it before hand and his response was "What are we paying these doctors for?"

DH did both - he was kind of grossed out, but is happy to be able to say he did it. He also got to deliver (well, catch) DD2 - it was an uneventful birth, the doctors knew us, and the maternity ward was quiet that night. That part he says he's not sure he could do again!

No one did since they were preemies and was rushed off to the nicu. Before being put on bed rest, I wanted to cut the cord because DH did not. They told me it was unlikely since they were going to be preemies.

D really had no interest. My mom cut E's cord, and FIL trimmed it. I had a c-section with G and the OB cut it, but D did trim it that time. He said the nurse just sort of handed him the scissors so he went with it.

I did! My husband knew in advance that it would gross him out, so when they asked if he wanted to, he declined. They asked if I wanted to, and I said sure! They do delayed cord clamping, and wait until it's stopped pulsing, so it'd been a little while and I'd already gotten to hold the baby and do skin to skin. I'll do it next time too!

I honestly have no idea! We did delayed clamping, so it kinda got lost in the shuffle of birthing the placenta, etc. I'll have to ask DH about it!

@bluestriped bee: It was awesome! I hope it works out to do it again. My mom had told me beforehand that she'd cut the cord when my little brother was born, and that it was a cool experience. And she was right.
