We did every other day, sometimes it ended up being more like 2 days off and 1 day on, and it only took a couple of cycles of charting... DH was worried about his "little guys" running out if we tried every day

@mrs. bird: bahahaha! So, it has nothing to do with the quality of my eggs, just my "I'm 30 and I can't keep up with 20 year olds" syndrome! I would be legitimately interested in a study looking into the question of if it takes older people longer to conceive in part because they don't BD as often. Obviously that wouldn't be universally true, but it actially makes sense sort of!

I've been reading TCOYF, the egg-white cervical fluid is really the most important time to BD

The cylce we got pregnant we tried the every other day thing and we were over it by day 5 or 6. I was going by if my cycle would be about the same as the month before but it wasnt so our week of every other day was worthless. Turns out over a week later I had bad ovulation pain to a digital OPK and it was positive so we BD that night and that was all it took

We started the cycles doing every other day just on the off chance I'd ovulate earlier (I ovulated on CD35, CD39, and the cycle I got the BFP on CD33). I was using OPKs and tracking CM, so I knew when O was getting close, so we would start doing it more then. When I got pregnant, we ended up doing a 2 days on, 1 day off pattern.
