I prefer my MIL's cooking! My mom's cooking is too healthy for me!

My mil is a much better cook but truthfully my mom just can't cook much. My mom is a much better baker though.

I don't think I've ever had anything that my MIL cooked. I wouldn't trust it anyway! haha! My mom wins by default!

@autumnlove: haha I'm the opposite! MIL is way too healthy while my mom cooks all the good stuff (Mac & Cheese, grits, pasta...yum!)

My mom is definitely better than my MIL, although DH's grandma does a lot of the cooking when we're over. She's good (a wonderful baker), but I don't have the heart to tell her that her chicken Parmesan (one of my fav dishes) isn't very good and can't hold a candle to my dad's!

Definitely my mom. My MIL acknowledges that she can't cook.

Neither! My MIL is too healthy like other posters and my mom just doesn't really cook! My mom got takeout from a BBQ place for thanksgiving this year...shameless!

Probably MIL, but I think it is close. They are both good though. Either way, I'm better than both of them

MIL makes some pretty awesome Ecuadorian food. Ceviche, empanadas, hearty soups and stews.
My mom is also a good cook, but makes a much different style of cooking.

my MIL. i get my cooking skills from my mom...in other words, they're not great growing up, my dad was the better cook and he still is!

My mom!!! She helped me make the food for LO's birthday party and lots of people thought I had hired a caterer and when they found out my mom made a lot of food, they were joking that she should quit her job and open a restaurant.
My LO had a stroke so she doesn't cook anymore but she didn't really cook much before her stroke

Neither are great. My dad did the cooking growing up, so he's better than my mom and my MIL combined!

My step mom is a pretty fantastic cook. My MIL is good too, but it is much different than what I am used to... They're also vegetarian and I hate beans and lentils and stuff so I have a hard time when we go over there for dinner.
So my step mom wins because of familiarity and cooking more stuff that I like (even though their food is probably equal in terms of quality)

My mom for sure. MIL isn't much of a cook. I don't think she'd ever cooked a meal when I was around. The last time we visited her, DH did the cooking.

My mom! MILs isn't bad, but I still prefer my mom's food by a mile!

Probably my MIL, but i still prefer my mom's cooking. My MIL doesn't really cook healthy food, so i find her food a bit heavy at times.

They're both pretty close but I dont consider either of them a good cook necessarily. They both seem to stick to the same basic things but they both also have been busy raising kids so I doubt they've had time for experimentation and adventure in the kitchen.

My mom would subside on salad and yoghurt alone, so....not her. My dad did all the major cooking when we were growing up.
MIL cooked really basic food - DH won't even eat certain things now because he had them way too often when he was a child.
soooo...MIL? If I HAD to choose.

My mom, hands down! She's an awesome cook, though she hardly ever cooks now. She seasons well and doesn't follow recipes to put together a meal. My grandma's an even better cook!
honeydew / 7589 posts
My mom. She rarely cooks and she's not fantastic, but my MIL is a horrible cook. She uses no seasoning whatsoever, not even salt. Seriously. She made lentil soup once and it was lentils, tomatoes, and water. Nothing else. *shivers in horror*

Definitely my mom! My MIL makes a lot of partially prepared already types of foods, my mom mostly cooks from scratch.

I like my moms. I feel like I grew up with it so its what I'm used to.

Neither one! My FIL is a fantastic cook, so he does all the cooking at their house. My mom just isn't a good cook. If it doesn't come from a can or jar, it's hopeless.
honeydew / 7909 posts
My mom, hands down!! She baked 99% of the food on our dessert table at our wedding. Nom nom nom! And makes delicious from scratch meals!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
My mom is! To be fair, my mom has always been a stay at home wife and my MIL has worked since her kids were in school, so my mom just has more time to cook stuff and enjoys it more. My FIL is a way better cook than my dad, though!

My Mom. My mom actually cooks, MIL does not. I would actually cook dinner there when DH and I were dating because MIL never cooked dinner for herself, DH or FIL. EVERRR.
She cooks 3 things. Spaghetti, Lasagna, and rice. I will admit, I use her spaghetti recipe because it's so good, but since my mom has a ton more variety and excellent cooking, she wins hands down. DH agrees
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Definitely my MIL because my mom doesn't cook, at all! That's my dad's "job". If it was between my dad and my MIL, oh man, that's a close one, but I think my dad would edge out because I ate his cooking growing up and am more accustomed to/prefer the flavor/style of his cooking.

My mom. My MIL is an atrocious baker and cook. Eg. last week she sent a piece of brownie for my DH and my DS. I took a tiny bite and spit it out, it was THAT bad! YUCK
So glad she is not doing Christmas dinner ever again. Or Thanksgiving.

Definitely my mom. DH's mom doesn't cook (she does have a few 'specialties' that she makes every once in a while). My FIL does all the cooking, and is very good at it. Which is nice, because DH grew up expecting to help out in the kitchen a lot.
