We are waiting to TTC #1!

We are waiting until the fall (probably October) because DH finishes grad school in December, and we want him out of school and working FT by the time baby comes along.

We had initially planned to start TTC earlier, but life got in the way!

We do have a few things planned to check off the list before TTC, aside from DH finishing school. I'm in 2 weddings this summer, and he's in 1. We'll be taking a short vacation to the west coast (I've never been!) And I am hoping to run a full marathon in the early fall.

Ideally, we will also begin looking to buy a house after DH graduates.

I'll be 30 in 6 months. DH just turned 28.

We are planning to start trying later on this year (Nov/Dec)... can't wait!

We've just started looking at houses, so that will hopefully give us lots of time to buy one/fix it up before being pregnant.

We're both 22 right now.

I am! We will be starting next summer (2015) which feels a world away! I'm the one that keeps pushing the date date back because I want to travel more. SO put his foot down and asked that I decide on which trips I want to do before baby and that we just do them. So the next year we are going to do a lot of traveling....
May: Toronto/Montreal
July: Orlando (Visit family)
November: Spain/Portugal
February 2015: Las Vegas (My Dad's 50th Bday!)
May 2015; Alaska and we can start baby making!
July 2015: I turn 26! (I'm currently 24, SO is 25)

Oh yeah, I don't expect to completely fix it up by then, but just make it more liveable and personalized. Thanks!

@PermaStudent: It is. I feel like we waited too long - we've become comfortable having "stuff". We always say we should've had kids 6 or 7 years ago before we were financially responsible people LOL And everyone keeps telling us "if you wait until you're ready, you'll never have a baby". So that keeps ringing in my ears.

Me too! When DH and I got married, we made a "before baby" bucket list - we agreed we would:

1) Buy a house
2) Get a dog (& house train it!)
3) Go to Paris & Rome
4) Pay off our car, student loan and credit card debt
5) Save a year's salary so I would be able to take that time off after baby if I wanted to

Annnnd we've been married for 5 years (DH is 29, I'm 28) and we're planning to start TTC next month. EEEEK!

@MrsMcD: Juuust about - if we miraculously got pregnant the very first month we try (April), then we'll hit the year's salary in savings the week before I'd be due.

We're just so excited for kids at this point that we decided not to wait until the money's in the bank, since we're so close!!

Can you tell we're big planners? I think that'll be the biggest challenge with having kids - my Type A personality is going to struggle big time, but I'm pumped to give it a shot, haha.

@raspberries We have similar lists! I have checked off the first two and we are taking our trip abroad in a couple weeks. I feel like we will never have enough money saved but we plan to wait a few more months to continue to build up our savings. I'm excited that someone else is going to start trying this spring.

@Bluemasonjar: That's awesome! It's funny how now that we're approaching our goals, we keep reassessing like, "Are we SURE we've saved enough? If we just save for 6 more months, that would be X amount more..." But you're so right... I think if we look at it like that, we'll never be exactly where we want to be financially, so it's about time to take the plunge! So excited to be starting this journey with you guys (soon - not quite yet!)

@raspberries I am totally type A too! I am trying to plan as much as I can, but I know there is only so much you can do while TTC! So glad your list is going to be done; we have a similar list that will be complete in October, hence TTC in September at the earliest (which means I won't get KU for at least 2 years, right?! Sometimes I feel like I'm jinxing myself and this whole thing will take longer than the silly "average" of 4-6 months I keep reading about)

@ModernDayJibarita: I'm jealous of your travel plans! I loved Spain when I was there. And my DH wants to go to Alaska so badly! Are you planning on doing an Alaskan cruise or just visiting different areas?

@MediaNaranja: Haha! I mean, I don't have any gender neutral baby clothes from a consignment shop set aside or anything...

@IRunForFun: It was my hubby's idea to go. Whats with men and Alaska? Yes, were planning on doing a cruise. We went on a Med cruise for our honeymoon and really enjoyed it so the hubs has been pushing for us to do another one.

@Permastudent: Agreed, its so nice to talk to other mid-twenties mamas-to-be. Of the few friends I have who even want kids soon-ish, even fewer of them anywhere close to actually TTC. I've found surprisingly few people who plan to have kids before they're 30. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

@Medianaranja: Nope, you're absolutely not the only one hanging around the baby aisles. I have been doing that for a good two years...

@Peaches1038: I agree, its bizarre to think about TTC after preventing. So weird.

Me me me me!!!

We got married May 2012. I'm 28, DH is 39 (!!). But our timeline keeps getting pushed back. First it was Jan/Feb 2014, then March, well... now it's March and it's not going to be March. I have had some major health problems and right now I am taking a maintenance med that I need to quit taking before we TTC.

Plus we're going away Memorial Day weekend for an anniversary trip, and I have a weeklong work trip in June that I don't want to be sick for.

So I think our first month trying TTC will probably be June/July 2014!

@JennyLayneAZ: lol, I feel the same way. I *feel* all guilty and awkward looking at baby stuff, but then realize that it's probably not that weird, ha.

What are some of the things people want to accomplish before trying? For me the main thing is to pay down some debt. I don't expect to pay it all off (otherwise I might be 40before we try!), but I'd at least like to get a good start and have a good system down. I'd also like to lose 20-30 lbs. these are some goals that will really let me feel like I'm making progress towards baby!
