You or SO?
We read some pregnancy books before our first LO was born but haven't read any since then. I just received a copy of The Happiest Toddler and I think I will read it and then make DH review it if I think it is useful

Um, neither.........
Well I read Happiest Baby on the Block and told DH about it. I started to read Baby Whisper and it made me feel like a BIG FAT failure so I didn't finish it. Haven't read one since.

Ooh, I bought Happiest Toddler at the weekend and am half way through it now! I'm really enjoying it!!
I am the parenting book reader in our house! I have read loads of them - it makes me feel more confident! I try to share what I've learnt with DH but he usually picks everything apart (without reading the book).

I do. But I share chapters with him regularly. I also attend a playgroup/parenting group that hands out a few articles weekly, and he usually reads those.
He's in residency to become a pediatrician though....so he reads a LOT of research and articles related to child health.

Me. My DH hasn't read anything baby related this whole pregnancy. He'd rather me just tell him what to do lol.

@Smurfette: Yep, I'm with you on this one. Honestly, those books tend to just make me question myself and get frustrated when what they say should be the right way isn't working. Maybe if I was having trouble with a specific issue I'd get one, but in general I'm much happier just following my gut mommy instincts.

@wonderstruck: I agree. I have a friend who is always saying well the books say he should be doing this. I am like PUT THE BOOKS DOWN! Your kid isn't in the book, just trust your gut!

I read all the parenting books and use the aspects that I think will work given my LO's temperament and disposition. Like time outs would never ever fly in our house because my LO is the type that escalates. A lot of books say, try this and when your toddler calms down, then say this. But seriously? My LO doesn't calm down 2 minutes later. A full blown tantrum can last 10-15 minutes and trying to do a time out? You've gotta be kidding me. But I do take a lot of their explanations to heart and try to utilize them as best as i can considering the situations.

I've read a few, and I'm the researcher (or the Hellobee-er lol). DH rarely reads anything.

Neither, unless we have a problem, then it's usually internet research from various sites. I did bust out No Cry Sleep Solution at 10 months since life was pretty hellish. Then we made up a plan of attack over a bottle of wine.
