I buy things on poshmark quite a bit recently. Suddenly I’m interested in selling on there. Do any of you sell on poshmark? Is it easy? How does it work? Do any of you buy on there like I do?

@agold: I used to sell on there quite a bit. Usually stuff in very good condition that no longer fit or I didn't need, like fancier work clothes. Brand name stuff (j crew, french connection, club monaco) and Lululemon always went quickest. I always offered to bundle stuff for a lower price (2 or 3+ items to the same buyer. I got a lot of free small USPS padded packing envelopes and would print the label on my printer. I would hand them to the mailman or drop in a mailbox if flat enough.

I've bought on there on and off. I especially like that you can get measurements before you buy unlike the big thrift sites. I tried selling a few things but they never went so I eventually took them down and consigned them instead at a local kids/teens consignment sale.

@lioneyes: yes, higher name brand items are what I'm looking to sell. How does shipping work? Who pays for it? I recently sold something on fb marketplace and shipped it out of state. Shipping for one smallish thing that went into a largish envelope was $15. So, if I were to ship a jcrew wool coat, I can't even imagine the cost.

@agold: I sell on Poshmark. The buyer typically pays for shipping. It's a flat rate ($6.79) for anything under 5lbs. Poshmark will email you a prepaid label when someone buys something.
You can offer the buyer discounted or free shipping as an incentive to buy, but you pay for it then. It's a very simple platform to use. The one annoying thing is that you're encouraged to share your items multiple times a day. This puts them at the top of the search and in the feed of anyone who is following you. It can be extremely time consuming because it requires you to be on the app multiple times a day to make sure people are seeing your items.

I sell a TON on poshmark (I've made close to $3K). Ive sold mainly middle to higher end kids brands (patagonia, north face, janie jack, hanna, childhoods, etc). Things like gap and old navy don't sell well, even if bundled. As far as women things, I've sold most of the stuff in my closet I never wear. I don't have any higher end brands; it was mainly banana, j crew, athletic apparel, etc. Random things you think won't sell indeed sell..
I just price things well and negotiate. Its really quite easy to do and requires no babysitting. I don't do all of the sharing stuff. I just keep a couple of underbed boxes with posh stuff I've listed and every now and then, randomly, i'll sell something. Or I post a ton of kids brand name stuff and its sells like wildfire. I just then request a check.
I bought a pack of 100 polymailers on amazon and I just put stuff in there along with a nice note. I do ship fast. I have all 5 star reviews.
I've only bought two things, and one i got burned on (my first purchase). I didn't known to inspect it really well and she listed it as "brand new condition" but the zipper had gotten caught so many times in the fabric it was rendered unusable. I make sure to disclose any flaws via pic and with emphasis in my listing, and try to communicate with the buyer once they purchase ("Hey! I shipped it, hope you love it! or "hey I'm busy so I'm shipping tomorrow first thing" etc)

I bought a few items. Tried to sell a few items... I am not active at all on poshmark. I'll answer questions but will not join any sales. And maybe it's my size... but i am a size 0 and there is not a lot of things that I want in my size and i am tired to be low-balled. Like a jcrew top that i bought about $35(Final sale, not returnable. value over $60...) and I listed in for $9 (down from $12). I understand the buyer pays shipping but the buyer made me an offer for $4. WIth the $2.95 poshmark fee, sorry I won't even drive to the post office for that, on top of having to wrap it or put it in a reusable envelope (which i did reuse in my only 2 sales)

I've bought quite a few items.. kid's shoes and some pregnancy clothes, but have not sold. It definitely has to be priced right since I know what I can buy things for on sale, and with free shipping for new... so used price has to be good.

@Littlebit7: That's amazing you have sold so much! I take my kids things to a resale shop but I've always figured I could make more if I sold personally. Have you ever shipped anything big like a coat? And how do you know if something requires more shipping cost than what poshmark gives you? What do you do then? Also.. I also bought something once and it actually smelled disgusting. (It was from a popular blogger, also). I was able to return it and got a full refund. Interesting process but I've liked the site more because of that.
@bakingdoodle: Wow! Being low balled that much would be annoying. And yes, at some point the low amount of money makes it not worth your time or effort. Is it a $2.95 fee to poshmark for every item, or is it based on cost sold?
@josina: yep! I agree! I experienced this recently when looking for toddler snow bibs. Gap did a black friday sale that made them insanely more affordable to buy new than off of poshmark.

@agold: I think you are given a 5 lb limit on your shipping label. I have a food scale; I've never had anything be over 5 lbs. If it is, you have to pay the extra shipping so factor that in to your costs. I've sold a heavy Jcrew peacoat and it was fine. 5 lbs is more than you think
I think poshmarks cut is 15%. Mercari is lower (10%) but its a bit more wild west on there. I've sold a few things (like baby gear) on there.

@Littlebit7: Very interesting! Thank you for sharing all of this info! Wild West mercari made me laugh. Thanks for that.

@agold: fees are $2.95 under $15 and 20% of the sale if above $15... As a seller, I don't really understand how people make a lot of money and as a buyer, I don't want to pay the $6.79 shipping. Mercari is cheaper but has fewer choices. Some sellers will post on poshmark... see @Merc in their description. The fees are lower on Merc. Merc will put some credit in your account (depending on promo...)
