I always have the monitor on my side of the bed. Even on the mornings when DH gets up with her. He sleeps so heavy, he would have to have the volume up so loud that it would wake me up anyway. So I just have to wake him up when he needs to get up.

It's in my night stand, but we can hear her without it, so we have th volume turned down and just the screen on usually.

Same! DH always sleeps through the monitor. Even nights when I have to take Ambien for my insomnia I still hear him before DH does.

We don't use one anymore but it was always on DH's side!

on DH's side. i'm a light sleeper and she sometimes cries out randomly in the middle of the night, which will wake me up and then i can't fall back asleep.

It's on my night stand when DH goes to bed. I'm the morning routine person, so I get to check on LO with monitor.

We don't use it anymore because it died, but when we did we both usually had it open on our cell phones on the nightstands. D always had the sound off, and I had it set fairly low on mine and had the phone screen-side down. I always got up with him at night (still do, mostly), but if D woke up he liked to peek on him.
Man I miss having that stupid monitor.

@SleepyMonkey: Last night R woke up about 10 times coughing, crying out (teething), talking to herself. It took me so long to fall back asleep each time. Exhausted.

My side, but only because there are no extra plugs on DH's side.

Ours in right in the middle. Our headboard has a circle design and it is attached by a ribbon that we just clip it to every night. It works great.

Does anyone else not use a monitor or are you all talking about video monitors?
We just have an audio monitor and keep it downstairs in the basement for when we watch tv after LO is asleep. Over night though we don't use a monitor. I can hear her when she wakes up because she's just down the hall.

She still sleeps in the RnP on my side! I do all the night wake ups so it makes sense for us.

On my side. DH is too heavy a sleeper, and I like to peek at him during the night if I wake up.

Always mine. But DH works way earlier than me so I don't mind. And I handle any night wakings so it makes sense.

The bassinet was on hubby's side (more space) and he would just snooze right through any night wakings while I crawled out of bed tripping over all of our shoes making my way to the babe. So I made SURE to keep the monitor with me even though he's obsessed with checking it!

@delight: we don't have a monitor at all. Her bedroom is close enough that we can hear her if we keep our doors open, and on nights that he has to get up early I sleep in the nursery with her so night waking a don't wake him.

@delight: We have a video monitor. We have to use it cause I sleep with a bedside table fan on and I can't hear her without it. Her room is on the other side of the house.

Both, I suppose. We have Foscam so we check it on our phones/ipad.

Until 2 weeks ago, it was on my side. But now that they're older and have been STTN for almost a year, I'm letting DH have it. I still hear when someone is truly crying, (and DH hears it better, too). But this way, I don't wake up to EVERY.SINGLE.NOISE the way I did when I had it on my nightstand. DH sleeps through almost anything, so win/win!

It's always on my side, even when DH is going to get up with him. He takes too long to hear it.

@Smurfette: ugh! you must be so tired maybe switch the monitor tonight to DH's side...the coughs, talking, etc will be farther away and won't wake you up, but if she cries, you'll still hear her.
pear / 1639 posts
Technically neither but it is located closer to me. I put it on our dresser which is 3 feet from my side...if I put it on my nightstand, I hear every single noise even on the lowest volume!
persimmon / 1420 posts
We have an audio only, and its in the middle on a window ledge, even though it is usually DH who gets up (bless him). They usually STTN, though, which is nice.

It's on DH's side. He's been taking first shift in an effort to get him to sleep in his bed.

We only have an audio one that we just use while we are downstairs. When we go to bed I can hear every noise he makes with our door open.
honeydew / 7283 posts
Ours has been on DH's side forever. I used to wake up to every single noise when M was a newborn so none of us were getting any sleep. Just moving it over a few feet to DH's side helped us all and now that's our routine.

It's on my side. We would be able to hear LO without the monitor at night but I like to be able to check in on him during the night when he wakes up.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
We don't use one unless it's summer and ac or fans are going. He is in a room that adjoins ours in our current house and we can hear everything even without one.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
It's on DH's side. He does all the night wake ups (usually just one these days!) with LO since my pregnancy so I can rest. He spoils me.
