I had the smaller room as the oldest, my two brothers shared! They actually shared the master, my parents had the smallest bedroom, lol!

I think also boys have less hanging clothes, at least, I don't hang anything of my son's, so it wouldn't be a big deal not to have a closet right now.

I think Olive needs a closet I think selling the glider may be a good idea before the move, one less thing to lug around!

Presumably whomever gets the bigger room will host the other for playing, so which child is less territorial?

My room was smaller than my sister's (I'm older) and also was the only room without a ceiling fan. I would give the girl the bigger room though.

I would also sell the glider and give Olive the bigger room.

I would usually say the older child gets the bigger room, but a closet is definitely a must-have for a girl as she gets older. I like every single clothing item (save pajamas and gym clothes) hung up neatly.

A girl needs a closet
Right now in our house, our daughter has the biggest room of the three bedrooms. We have the second, and then the smallest is the guest/office. We may end up moving LO to that room when baby #2 comes - but they have equal sized closets so it works outeither way.
Our reasoning is that her room now is the farthest corner of the house, away from public spaces and therefore the most quiet to encourage good baby sleeping. Babies also have way more stuff than we do so we thought she should have a larger room than us.

If you're planning on staying long term, i would give the bigger room to Olive, she will need a closet

Do they tend to play more in one child's room than the other? Do you do any family activities in one kids room more than the other? Are there any big items that are especially associated with one child (maybe the glider in your case)? I would just think about how you function in the spaces and if there is a logical reason for the room assignment, rather than just gender or age.

My daughter has the bigger room, only because they were supposed to share the bigger room and then it didn't work. DS was the poorer sleeper so we experimented with him sleeping elsewhere and the slightly smaller guest room became his. But DD has the closet with both of their clothes, has the bookshelf, and her room is where we do family bedtime wind-down time. So it feels fair to me.

DS2 will be in the bigger room because DS1 loves his room too much for us to move him. His room is right across from ours and very convenient for middle of the night bathroom visits. I figure that we will probably spend a lot of time in DS2's room and the extra space will help.

Another vote for Olive getting the bigger room.

I've actually found it really useful to have all of Lala's clothes in a closet that's not in her room. That way, if she's asleep, I can still put away her clothes. It's a pain that M's closet is in her room!
