We didn't get a pet but we DID get a swingset, build a base for it, get a front patio, re-landscape the front yard, and buy a sprinkler and misting system for the front yard for the kids to play.... so.... yeah. We canceled almost all our planned summer travel and redirected the money.

@Mrs. Champagne: I wish we could have them! They aren't allowed in our city, but I would 100% do it if I could!

I'm sure you've all thought about this, but I've been wondering about all the people you see online adopting pets right now - it seems like such a good idea when you're home all day long, but are they thinking about what will happen when they go back to work and may be gone for 10 hours a day? (wow, that is quite a run-on sentence ) I know lots of people are fostering, and I also wonder if the shelters are prepared for taking many of those dogs back once people are back at work.

I told my husband we should get a puppy and he responded that we should just have a fourth baby.

I have major puppy fever but my vet friend cooled my jets a bit. She said while it’s an awesome time to train a puppy, it’s not a great time to socialize one. I did look into adopting an older dog but our SPCA doesn’t have any available at the moment (which is a good thing!).

I also had baby fever around Christmas last year and that very very quickly faded after the nostalgia was over and the new year hit so I’m going to give it a few months to see what happens to my puppy fever, ha. My girls really want one, so maybe we will get one in the fall.

@Chuckles: Exactly this! DH really wants a dog but we're both gone 10+ hours a day. I would hate to have all of this time now with the puppy and then put it in a cage or something when life goes back to whatever normal is. Until he gets a true WFH job, not happening.

@Mrs. Tiger: @Ajsmommy: Such cute puppies!! I love that so many people are adopting and shelters are low on animals! I am a little worried though that when people are no longer working from home they realize they dont have time for a new pet and send them back to a shelter. I'm assuming rescues are talking to potential adopters about that though and making sure people arent just adopting dogs on a whim.

We have a 12-13 year old dog and a 9 year old cat. Neither are super thrilled with our almost 12 month old daughter and her amount of energy. I've never owned a kitten before as we adopted our cat when she was 6, but the rescue we got her from currently has 18 newly born kittens that will be up for adoption in a few months so I'm wondering if it may be nice to have a young cat that our daughter can grow up with.
