I'm ready. My office is closed today, and the T shuts down at 3:30 so DH is under strict instructions to get home by 3 (although he works only a mile and a half away, so he could walk home if need be). We got a few extra groceries but not really-- I don't think we will be THAT affected by it in the city. Our power lines run underground, which really helps, and we have lots of candles. We have 2 netflix DVDs and a bunch of shows DVRed.

So yeah, we are set. Just waiting for the snow now!

@mrs. bird: Yeah, when the lines are underground it's much less likely to lose power, though I guess is the source loses power the houses still will. We've only lost power here once, and it was when a huge transformer exploded and it took days to get it back on. Luckily, the weather was warm and areas near us had power so we just had to walk half a mile to get dinner or groceries. So yeah, we've been lucky here!

@rachiecakes: They will definitely have you go home early, right? With the T shutting down at 3:30?

@Anagram: Haha me too! Although, I was charting so I know LO was conceived a few days after Sandy, but we are in good company with late July babies!

Wow 34" of snow!

Um....what do you do with the milk and eggs if the power goes out?!?! Specifically the eggs? haha.

The practical side of me says that you'll just end up having to put your food outside in the snow if you go without power too long

@Foodnerd81: I believe so. I'm the manager of my dept. so I've told my staff they can leave anytime they'd like. (I also told them last night they didn't have to come in, but everyone is here today)

I'm a little jealous. I live in the "south" so it's just raining here. It's been raining torrentially since 11 last night... ugh. Where's my snow?!

My office closed and DH gets to work from home today. I hope we don't lose power.

@Foodnerd81: I'm scared to cook with gas when we don't have electricity! I'd never survive in the wilderness...

we're somewhat stocked but i didn't go crazy. LO drinks breastmilk and no food, got the brita filled and a case of bottled water, lots of milk and cereal and pasta, etc

did not fill the tub, though. wondering if i should..

I am so not ready for the storm. My office is actually open today even though most transportation isn't running so I had to come in. Meanwhile I have no food in the house whatsoever and by the time I can make it to the grocery store it will be ransacked. They don't make shipments into Manhattan during and right after storms so I don't know what we're going to do..

It's started!! I'm real excited for this! Most people I know got today off and everyone else is updating facebook as they wait for the email ok to head home.

@rachiecakes: Finally figured out the Nemo reference-- it's the name of the storm (like Sandy, Irene). I didn't know Nor'Easters got names.

The snow has started here, just south of Boston...!!! So excited. I love getting snowed in. We've been lucky in the 3+ years we've been in this house-- even when all the houses across the street have no power, we've kept power somehow. Fingers crossed we keep our power. We live right on a main road, which is actually a positive only in these kinds of storms. We park right in front of our front door so all we need to do is shovel about 4 feet of driveway and we can get out. Our landlord usually sends plowers but during the last storm they never came (to her house either). But our neighbors in the other unit in the house have 2 pickup trucks and a plow

We just stocked up on milk and eggs and bread earlier this week, so today we just have to find some more bottled water and make sure the car is filled with gas. The car is our backup power source... we would start the car and charge our phones / laptops in there if we needed to. And I'd pump in there! Haha.

The museum is closed today so I am home and I cancelled our nanny. Wagon Jr.'s daycare is OPEN!!! woohoo. That really worked out because Wagon Sr. HAD to go in to work today. Today is the last day of the week long conference he runs once a year. The conference takes place in a hotel and all the participants stay in that hotel, so whoever didn't change their flight to leave last night is right there in the building, so they can't cancel the last day of the course. So he drove in and is planning on driving home (and picking up Wagon Jr. on the way home, and stopping for our last needed supplies) around noon.

I made a big batch of spaghetti and meatballs two nights ago, and defrosted some meat last night, so we are all set for dinners for at least 2 nights. We've got frozen cookie dough, popcorn, and hot chocolate. We're ready!

@blackbird: we have electric stove too. Aside from the fact I already hate cooking on it, it sucks even more when I *can't *cook on it when we lose power. During the October storm 2 years ago we used the grill to cook on for 5 days.
We have well water too, so no water when we lose power too! We're just sitting ducks staring at a wall. I didn't think to do anything to prep, hope the storm is not too bad.
