@pastemoo: @2PeasinaPod: @Phillybaby2013: I went into labor wanting a completely natural birth. I regret letting them keep me, and then augment me, and then accepting pain meds just to shut them up (the nurse would NOT let it go) b/c I know being stuck in bed feeling like a drunk person did not work with my body to progress. I fell for "dead baby" when my doctor said I hadn't progressed enough in the time I was there and that my baby was in fetal distress b/c his heartrate was dropping through contractions (far as I remember it was recovering well between them though). I absolutely hated it! I missed the first 3 hours of DS's life bc I was knocked out on morphine and then ended up dry heaving and vomited 2 days later from all the gas... Not to mention I felt the first part of the incision b/c I lied to not be put under. I'm just thankful I didn't have any long term complications like a friend of mine.

My first birth experience is 100% of the reason I opted for a hbac with P.

I chose medicated failure to progress, but there was also fetal distress. I labored for a bit more than 36 hours and had a cervical lip I couldn't push past. DS was very low for quite some time, and eventually showed signs of distress.

@Phillybaby2013: Sorry....missed that you were disappointed with your birth experience too. I'm sorry you feel as if your doctor was just doing it so he could go home. My biggest fear was pushing for a few hours and then being told that I had to have a C-section as well.

@runsyellowlites: While I trust that my doctor was trying to do what was best for my baby, I do still feel disappointed. I know the C-section was necessary b/c he was stuck, but he was also stuck coming out through cesarean as well. He also had meconium in his lungs, so I'm glad they took him when they did...just disappointed that I couldn't have him naturally.

Mine was a combo of things not part if the poll. Failure to progress after 18+ hours, included pain meds. 26 hours after my water broke I was only able to get to 8.5cm and they said I likely wouldn't make it to 10cm. They also said I was showing signs of an infection because I had a fever.

I had a placental abruption, so my OB didn't want to risk my or my baby's life by pushing (could lead to hemorrhaging). I was on hospital bed rest for 6 weeks prior to delivery. We had the c-section scheduled for 1/3, but my water broke on 1/1. No contractions. I was immediately prepped for the c-section at that time.

I voted failed induction at 41 weeks and my induction was, according to my doctor, medically necessary. I had high blood pressure my whole pregnancy and was therefore at risk for preeclampsia. And up until the last week of my pregnancy, my BP was controlled with meds. My doc said we had to induce as the risks were higher the longer we waited. However my induction failed (I stopped progressing at 6.5cm) and it was 48 hours since water broke, I developed a fever and my BP was rising despite epidural - so I had the c section. I wish it had gone differently and will definitely try for a VBAC for my next one.

My water broke on it's own at 40w2d. I knew I was 4 cm dilated from my appointment two days earlier. My contractions never started and I ended up on pitocin until I was receiving the maximum dose. 17 hours into labor, I was 5 cm dilated and my body still wasn't contracting on it's own. We tried turning down the pitocin at some point to see if I could go on without it. I got the epidural at 8pm and was wheeled into the OR at 9.

I'm hoping for a vbac next time around!

I voted failed induction at 39 weeks, medically necessary. However, I don't think that is the most accurate. I was induced due to very high bp at 38w5d and did not deliver until 39 weeks exactly. My induction was successful in that I made it to 10cm and pushed for two hours. Unfortunately, my baby was face up and was not responding to positions to turn him. He also had a 14.5 inch head, so it wouldn't fit that way. The stress of a two day induction with little sleep, plus two hours of pushing, was too much for my body and I ended up with eclampsia. The seizure did not take place until I was on the operating table with my spinal in place, so they got him out very quickly.
