It was 96 degrees here today with a heat index near 100. My MIL apparently came over while I was at the gym, and I came home to find her in the backyard with my LO swaddled in a thick SwaddleMe giving him a bottle! She says he was too cold in the house and that she needed to warm him up.
Annnnd now he has heat rash. Neat.
Why do older people always think babies are too cold?!

I had a stranger come up to me at the grocery store to tell me my baby looked cold. Mind your own business!

Yep I had this problem last summer when DD was a newborn. It was literally 104 outside and my MIL would run upstairs to get socks for her.

@BeachMama: I don't get it! It was 74 degrees in our house and LO was in a shirt and long pants. No need to swaddle him and go fry him outside!

It is winter here but MIL is always making passive agressive comments about how I dress DD and that she must be cold. The other day I had her in tights, a cord dress, a long sleeve onesie and was about to put a cardigan on her and she said "do you think it's summer" to LO. ARGH! My parents are nearly as bad. I don't get it... if she was cold she wouldn't be calm and happy.

@grizz: I've noticed this too! I think people like to show their "superior child raising knowledge" to us first timers even though they're dead wrong half the time.

Everybody does this!!! My LO doesn't even wear clothes in my house and its set to 70!!! Heat rash is such a mess!

My mother and MIL are like this too. I don't get it! It's MY baby, I know if she's cold or hot! My Mom used to wrap M up in blankets when she would visit and even now gives me a hard time for not giving her a blanket. I don't get it. When M was 3 months old, Mom watched her for 3 weeks. I would come home every day (in September in NC) and find her wrapped in a blanket or in a thousand layers. Stop bundling my baby!!

OMG my MIL does this too! She watches DS 2 days/week and one day I picked him up and he was in double sweatshirts....it was over 70 degrees outside. Not necessary!! Drives me crazy.
My mom doesn't do it though (of course, lol ;). But she's always hot herself.

I think its just a misconception from years ago that babies lose heat so fast that even in the summer they need to be wrapped up as though it were winter. My parents are the same way

I once saw a nasty showdown on a subway where an old meddling slightly nutz woman was yelling at two couples with babies saying the "Babies are too cold!". At first they just tried to ignore her, but it was impossible so finally they were yelling back at her hurling personal insults. It wasn't pretty..
Maybe it's because they aren't as in-tune with teh babies needs as they were when they were young parents themselves, so they are trying to create a problem/need that they can easily solve? Because clearly common sense would tell them that if it's over 100 degrees outside LO does not need to be in sweats

My mom gets on my case all the time about LO being cold. It's actually kind of funny once you get past the annoyance factor.
Once though she went so far as to tell me somebody would call CAS on me once they saw he wasn't wearing any socks. (While inside, in his carseat). *roll eyes*. Ok there dear.
