Talk to babies like they're deaf?
I've caught both my MIL and mom doing this...and the lady at the museum gift shop did it today, too! When MIL did it, DH just said, "you know...he passed his hearing test just fine." lol...love him.

I don't know! The same reason why everyone feels the need to talk to them in some horrid high pitched voice I guess..

@MrsB2012: "Motherese" (the higher pitch, sing song kind of voice) is actually supposed to be a good thing, albeit annoying! Not the weird non-word words though...those I have not explanation for!!
@Dandelion: I have no idea why people do this. What bugged me is when people would just touch LO as a nb. A cashier at target once reached into the carseat, moved the blanket, and touched LO and my jaw just dropped. People are just weird about babies!

@googly-eyes: So far I've only taken M to DS's school for a book fair and the museum, and even though people comment and yell at the baby, I haven't had anyone touch, yet. But, next week is his maiden voyage to the grocery store, so maybe I'll have stories then, lol

Same reason people talk to people who are learning English like they're deaf?
If someone doesn't understand it helps to talk LOUDER!!!
