So I just found out I'm going to have a girl, and I'm still fully expecting her to wear most, if not all, of DS's hand-me-down clothing, at least for the first 2 years, shoes and all! However, I'd certainly be hesitant of doing it the other way around.....it almost feels like it's more okay for girls to wear boys clothing but not for boys to wear girly clothes, ya know what I mean? Or is this just me?

It's not just you, it's a horrible double standard. It's cute for a girl to wear boys' styles, but not for a boy to wear girls'. Bummer.

I was actuality just thinking about this yesterday! I realized that even though I sometimes buy my daughter clothes from the baby boy section (especially frog things lol we get her anything with a frog on it for some reason) and I am saving her clothes for when we have another, but I don't think I would have a boy wear most of her things..

Not just you. Although I don't think I'd dress a girl in something SUPER boyish. I feel like more boys' clothes are just more unisex whereas girls' clothes are super girly.

Totally true! But I think a lot of it has to do with the frills that come with a lot of girls clothes, besides the colors. Sequins, bows, flowers, glitter - they're usually adorned with something! I was even looking at DD's plain, navy onesie. It has bow cuffs on the sleeve. I figure that one could be used for a boy someday if I cut off the bows. Jeggings and jeans from DD, I also think are okay for a boy.

@Mae: @shopaholic: exactly! A lot of LOs plain colored onesies have feminine detailing like bows or scalloped edging, whereas boys stuff will be just plain. As long as it's not too obvious, I would probably use again for a little boy, especially for infant clothes.

It's like the whole thing ... why is there women tuxedos but no men ballgowns? So unfair.
