@Rainbow Sprinkles: I say I'm fine w/ his size, and I really am, but then I always find myself getting excited when he grows out of stuff....maybe it's the fact that he's a boy? I'd be probably less focused on it if he was a girl?

@winniebee: I get that! I feel like they is pressure for boys to grow big and strong and brawny

@Rainbow Sprinkles:Definitely. He'll never be big and brawny....maybe fast and smart?

I have the opposite issue. Lo has always been in the 90-95th percentile and I always worry that shell be overweight. She was such a chunk as a baby! She's still a high percentile but she has thinned out as a toddler so I no longer worry. But seriously, I used to ask if I should put lo on a diet at her Dr apts.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I think you are right. People would probably make less comments if it was a little girl as opposed to a little boy.
My best friend has a little boy that is the same age as my LO and he's HUGE (90th percentile for height and weight) and I feel like our friends compare the two boys, and assume her LO is healthier because he is bigger, which really isn't true.

My husband’s co-worker has an 8 month old baby boy who wears 24 month clothes. He’s HUGE! People give her crap all the time about “why isn’t your toddler walking yet?” and she has to explain how he doesn’t walk because he is still a little baby, not a toddler!! So – judgy peeps are going to judge either way you go.
When I was a baby, I was always less than 5% for weight until about 6 months when I fell off the growth chart completely. I’ve never had any health issues or anything; just small.

I've never understood it either. I'm 5 feet tall. My baby is average for height but a tiny little slip of a thing, and I wouldn't have expected anything else. She eats pretty well, and breastfeeds a ton, so I know she's how she's meant to be. I never quite understand why people feel insecure about their small children - do they feel like they've done something wrong?

I remember once when DS was 4 months old we were at walgreens and someone asked his age, when I said 4 months they said, "oh wow... he is so small. Does you feed him enough?"
ummm.... wow!!! I just said my doctor has no concern and he's healthy, so I'm not worried!
He is 6th percentile for weight at 10.5 months. He doesn't look like he's going to turn one in a month. He still looks like a baby... but I think I secretly revel in it - I like having a small baby - he's easier to cuddle and carry. He also fits into his clothes longer
I was worried about it initially but I choose not to care anymore.
It's funny that so many pp's bring up the bigger=healthier=wealthier stigma... because it sure doesn't stay that way once they're kids and adults. Then it's whoever is the fittest/prettiest!

@zippylef: Yeah, you just can't win. My tiny 16 month old just started walking, so people constantly assume that she's still a baby, and it really pisses me off.

My son was on the 99th percentile for weight and height and people used to make comments like "Man you have a huge baby!" or "What are you feeding him?" I just ignored them. I figure if he's growing proportionally, he's fine. If he was 99th for weight and then all of a sudden 25th for height, I might be a little concerned. So I use these percentiles are just general guidelines. Nothing more nothing less.

I think people just assume that all babies should be fat and bouncy as sign of good health.
My baby was 6lbs 9oz & 20 inchs at birth which is smaller than we thought she would be and she has had periods of struggling with gaining weight but in the end she is doing great now. my parents still think I dont feed her enough but her doctor is happy with her weight and she is about 40-50 percentile so I'm ok
