I always see name posts that say "name is X, but nickname is Y" or "name is X but we'll call the baby Y".
I always thought nicknames were either built into the name itself (e.g. Jennifer and Jenny or Jen) or were non name specific or a pet name (e.g. Boomer, Munchkin, Pumpkin, etc.). Also, I thought that nicknames were something bestowed upon a child by friends or family depending on personality.
Why are nicknames important to be decided upon prior to a baby's arrival? Just curious to hear why nicknames matter so much because we call our baby by her full first name and both my husband and I generally don't use nicknames (though we use pet names).
