I grew up in a traditional korean-American family and my parents really stressed respect for adults and elders. It didn't really matter who the adult was - family, family friend, church member. I was talking about this w/ some friends, and I realized that my views are very different now. I want to teach LO to be respectful to everyone , whether they are an adult or not, and I don't want her to feel like she has to give someone respect or deference *merely* bc they are older. I don't think ppl automatically deserve special respect or anything just bc of their age. For example - we had to be on our best behavior when we were around adults and it was definitely frowned upon to be anything but super polite and courteous, just bc they were adults.

Will you stress respect/deference for adults/elders? Is your view different from how you were raised?
