I'm working, but I was working for Obama's also, and I made time to watch it in the family lounge. I will not be doing that today...

I'm probably going to try to watch some of it, if only so I know what everyone is talking about later. I've been a little out of the loop with everything and want to be better informed. But yeah, 8 years ago my team at work went out to lunch so we could watch. Not the same feeling this year.

I'm not sure yet. It will be evening here and I'm not sure if we will be home. I may try to catch a little bit of it.

In general, I have cut back on news consumption since the past election. I have never done that before, for any of the presidents we've had in my lifetime.

No. I'm working and won't be able to, but even if I was able to, I don't think I'd watch it. I'll probably read Washington Post's article about it later though.

Of course I'll watch it. I watched when Obama became president and I wasn't happy with that. I'm not happy today either, but it's a historic moment in our country.

I'm on leave and I had to turn it off. I just can't watch it.

If its covered where I'm at, we may watch it. I'm curious to see the outakes (if any). We're battling major jetlag so we'll be up.

I'm working so I doubt I'll watch it the whole thing but I'm definitely following it online As unhappy as I am, inaugurations and the peaceful transfer of power is always historic. Plus, as someone in the other thread mentioned, I'm just ready for all the hysteria (including my own) about "what will he do" to be over. After today, for better or worse, we'll at least be talking about what he's actually doing.

I'm working, but I'll try to watch some of it on my computer when I can. I love politics, even when I don't like the politicians, so I can't stay away.
I certainly don't have all the feelings I had 8 years ago. I was teaching in Philadelphia then and it was a pretty amazing moment to watch it with all our students in a school where 99% of the kids were African-American.

Yes, because it's still a historic event. Even though I don't like it.

@littlebug: DW read we should turn all the tvs on other stations to skew the ratings away from Trump. We did it even though no one is home all day!

I won't. For any other Republican president I would, but DT is someone who will be tweeting tomorrow about how x million Americans tuned into the inauguration and will turn it into a popularity contest. I can't support that.

@wrkbrk: I don't think that counts unless you're a Nielsen family.
coconut / 8854 posts
Yes, he's the new president of the United States. No matter if I support the person or not, I will respect them and watch.
coconut / 8472 posts
@wrkbrk: It means you have a special box attached to your tv to log what you're watching. TV stations can't tell how many people watch what they're broadcasting just by having tv's on. Nielsen households are a statistical representation and they extrapolate out to determine viewing numbers.
pomelo / 5084 posts
@ShootingStar: Oh interesting, I have never heard of that! So they cannot track tvs in general? Did not know that either!
coconut / 8472 posts
@wrkbrk: You've probably heard the term Nielsen ratings? And yeah, it would be kind of creepy if broadcast channels knew every person that watched them, lol. Though I think probably Hulu and Netflix do know how many people watch something.

I won't, but I'll be listening to NPR off & on throughout the day. It'll be like a bad accident, I'm certain--I won't be able to help but listen to a little.

Yes, because I believe in our country and as a history teacher I think it is important not to shut down. But it hurts and I am sad. Trying to have the amount of hope that President Obama seems to have....
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
I had a tiny amount of hope that his speech would at least try to be presidential. nope.

One of my customers had a TV and we watched Pence and Trump get sworn in his lobby. I shed a tear.

@Mrs. Lion: damn. That was so.....negative. I wish he'd stop describing the country as some type of hell hole he needs to fix. I had to shut it off after he said that the school systems are flush with cash but don't teach students anything.
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
@Madison43: He also said something about schools depriving students of all knowledge.
okay then.
pomegranate / 3904 posts
@wrkbrk: just wondering, why does your DW think that matters? It's not like he will lose his position if ratings are low. I really am curious, I've seen someone else post that as well
pomegranate / 3904 posts
And to answer the OP, yes I watched. I was interested to see what happened. Like others have said, I may not like him, but he is the new president and it is a historic moment.
