Absolutely not! There will be nothing with Internet access behind closed doors! A teen in our area was recently abducted by a man from a few states away that she met online, so I'm even more freaked out by this then I usually am since it happened so close to home!

Then there's the whole cyber bullying thing.

Absolutely not. Computers and tablets will only be allowed in common areas.

We had a shared family computer in a common area when I was a very young child. I only got my own laptop when I was in college... I don't know exactly what will end up happening with my own kids, who knows what will be appropriate by the time my baby is a teenager. If my kid was old enough to be using a computer now, I would do the same thing I grew up with.

No way - common areas only and no phones or tablets in the bedroom at night! The internet is not a place I want my children wandering around unsupervised..,

I think we'll probably allow a computer in the bedroom, it doesn't mean that it won't be monitored/controlled. We will likely configure it so that the internet access is turned off at a certain point in the evening and we will monitor activity.

As for other technology, we will also allow it when it is appropriate, also monitored.

We have a no technology rule in our own bedroom, so it will definitely extend to our LO.

My parents had our computer in a common area and I suspect we will be the same way. When I was in high school, IMing friends was just starting to be a thing (AOL) and that made them nervous. That said, who knows what technology will be like at that point!

Never, but I'm sure by then (LO is only 16 months) there will continue to be new devices. However, there will be a strict rule on when devices need to be off. I'm sure once they're in high school it will be much harder to monitor, but I plan to try my best. I certainly want all their passwords to EVERYTHING. If you don't want me to see it, don't do it.

Probably one day as an older teenager. We can't keep them from it forever, at 18 they'll go to college and have free reign to everything. I'd rather teach them along the way and gradually give age appropriate freedom.

We will likely have a technology curfew, and we will put some sort of parental tracking software on their computer. I plan to be upfront about the fact that we will be able to know what they're doing, and that will have all their passwords. As they get older and build trust they can have more privacy and privileges.

DH and I both work in software and we have a very heavily tech-y household. Technology is important to us and it's important that our kids are fluent in it. And we'll have to do the best we can to teach and protect them.

Common area only!

When she is young, no, there will always be set limits on exposure to laptops/tablets. As a teenage I think personal laptops/tablets/cell phones have to be used as a teaching device. I don't want her to think she is "supposed" to have this stuff because she was born, but she has to earn the privilege to have them and maintain good grades and good behavior to keep them. I would like to believe that I can "control" what she does on the devices but being a teenager once I know that I can't and where there's a will there's a way, as a PP said. I can only hope to provide her with the tools to make good decisions, while monitoring her for signs she could be doing something wrong.

When she's older. When I was in highschool, using a laptop in my room to do my homework was a lifesaver.
