Will your LO be getting the flu shot? I'm on the fence (my LO is 12 months old.). Tell me why you're planning to let your LO get or not get the flu shot.

LO got one last year at 10 months and she is getting a new one next week.
My baby is too young for the flu shot.

Yes, we're both getting it on October 1st.
It's just not worth the risk to me to not get it. Last year both DH and I got it (LO was too young until the very end of the season) and we both still got sick, but much less sick than DH's unvaccinated co-workers who also got it. I want to give E whatever protection I can.

Nope! I didn't get it when I was pregnant either. My concern is that they alter the drug formula each year based on what strains of the virus they predict will be active for the season. So in some instances it might not even have an effect because you get a dose to cover one strain and yet come in contact with another. I also worry that there isn't enough data to show the long term side effects.

Both of mine will be getting the flu shot. They have gotten every year that they can, and since I'm pregnant and due in early January everyone is getting a flu shot (including my mom, MIL, FIL, DH, and anyone else who intends to have much interaction with baby)

N will not be getting the flu shot. Dh and I don't get them either.

Yes. My three year old son and I will both get the flu shot. I started getting it when I was pregant with him and we have both had it every year since he was born. People die from the flu every year and vulnerable populations like young children and the elderly are particularly susceptible. We've had no ill effects from the flu vacccine, so there is no reason not to get it.

I have not gotten it and my girl will be too young to get it. I might get it this year, but generally I don't. I've had the flu once though, it was terrible, and coincidentally was the year I had planned to get the shot and then didn't.

Yep. They go in for their physicals in October and all four will get them.

@bunnylove08: I didnt want to but in my state it is mandated for kids in daycare over the age of 6 months so I basically had no choice

@Mrsbells: I thought all states allowed exemptions for daycare/public school vaccinations (well all but 2, and each of them still allow either philosophical or religious)?

@runsyellowlites: for religious reasons yes but I didnt have a religious reason and I guess I just gave in.

My LO was a few months younger than yours last year and did not get it. Our pEdiatrician was neutral on the vaccine. My LO was not in a daycare environment, so I opted out. I did panic late in the season though when we had a big outbreak here. At that point, I regretted my choice. He goes to a MDO program now, so I will get him the vaccine this year.

No, but only because she is too young (3 mos right now). DH and I will both get it.

Nope. I was going to since she was in daycare, but now that she's not and we have a nanny instead I don't see the need.

I will get one, due to LO's egg allergy I don't know if she will be allowed, if so yes she will get one.

Yes, we vaccinate because the flu could kill my husband who has cystic fibrosis. Without that reason we may not but we like daddy too much and need to be as protective of him as possible.

Yes, she got the flu shot at her 15 month appointment. LO is in daycare, but I would have gotten her the flu shot even if she wasn't. We live in a global world, and you have no idea who everyone you come into contact with every day came in contact with and what they are were exposed to.

No, but only because she is younger than 6 months. Next year she'll get it for sure.

Yes, my LO got his 2-shots flu series last season and will be getting this year's as well (he's now 15 months). The flu can cause serious illness, especially in the very old and very young.
pomegranate / 3003 posts
No; she is too young for a flu shot. DH and I will likely get ours in the next few weeks. I was hit by an absolutely horrific flu last winter (while pregnant, too!) and the thought of passing that kind of illness on to LO is terrifying.

He already got his 2013-2014 one. I get them every year and so does he. My brother didn't get the flu shot for the longest time until he had the flu really bad a few years ago.
grapefruit / 4817 posts
I've never had one and neither has my husband, so it's always the shot I'm on the fence about. Especially because he has to have boosters (if I understand correctly). I don't know at this point, but his 18 minth checkup is next month and I'll make a decision then.

Absolutely, I've seen too many young children with flu encephalitis who were perfectly normal before they got the flu and are profoundly impaired afterward. If there is any chance I can protect my girls from having that happen, I'm definitely taking advantage!

I read recently that the CDC reported 90 percent of the children who died of the flu last year did not get the shot. I know it doesn't protect against all strains, but some protection is better than none! Yup, my future kids will be getting shots
bananas / 9118 posts
Absolutely- we all do every single year, to me the risks are so negligible when compared to the benefits. I hate to see my little guy sick, so if there is any way I can prevent him from getting sick (aside from living in a bubble) I will. And I would hate for him to get another child sick if he ever did get the flu. My pediatrician is taking fooooooorever getting the shots in though.
