LO 1 picked out some Elmo PJs at Kohls for her sister. I will look for book or small toy for LO 2 to gift to LO 1.

yes - I am taking them to Target alone to pick out a gift for each other
(not related but I also do this for their birthdays)

Ooohhh... I hadn't even thought of that! I might try to direct her to pick out a book for sister (and give her a book 'from' sis).

Hmm... I don't recall getting gifts for my brother (or my parents) until I had a job... now I feel like I should ask my parents if that's really accurate or I just have a terrible memory.

@Adira: my parents always wrote my brother's name on one gift. I always thought it was lame but I'm doing it now..haha!

@autumnlove: I know my parents wrote our names on gifts they gave to grandparents and stuff, but I don't think my brother and I "exchanged" gifts until we were old enough to buy them ourselves. It might not even have been until we were in college! Or after college?? Wow, my memory is terrible... I'll just ask him what we did, he has a better memory than me.

I always picked out gifts for my brothers, and they always picked out ones for me!

DS1 recently picked out a gift for DS2's birthday, and it was really adorable and thoughtful of him. I will have him pick out a present for his brother for Christmas as well. I'll probably buy a Thomas train and tell him that DS2 bought it for him. He will be thrilled.

I don't have kids yet (currently pregnant with #1), but when I do, yes I will have them exchange gifts. I think anything you can do to encourage sibling closeness is well worth doing.
As it stands, my husband receives a gift from our furbabies and so do I. I think it's kind of along the same lines. Obviously they didn't buy it but it's still sweet.
